Default Man of the Hour/General becomes Family Member

Has anyone ever run into this before. It's a first for me. I am playing the Britannia Campaign as Ireland. I just won a battle with a General named Art O'Rourke. He is a named character that I started the game with, but he was not a family member on the tree, just a General. After the battle, he won the "Man of the Hour" and was added to my family tree. I have seen this countless times with captains, but never before with an already named character. Anyone?

That feature has been in since Rome. (Possibly earlier, I only started at Rome)

EDIT - Wow I'm an idiot and didn't read the thread, a General became part of the family? Hmmm.

Anyone who did exceptionally well to get Man of the Hour will get the adoption screen, regardless if he's a random captain or a general. Not sure if this was in Rome though.

I think since day 1 when they introduced recruitable generals.

Apparently you really need to be low on family though - my Art only got +1 traits couple of times and even upped loyalty for winning fierce battles (not seen that before as a sep message IIRC), but no family membership - no real vacancies.

I had no vacancies at all. I am 32 turns into the campaign and I don't think anyone has died yet. My family tree is not small by any means.

It doesn't surprise me to learn that this was a feature since BI, although this is the first time I have seen it.

Yes, this was definitely available in vanilla RTW.

Aye, it's been in for ages. Any general that you have or recruit but isn't part of your family tree can be a man of the hour and be adopted. I first saw it in Barbarian Invasion, but I'm pretty certain it would happen in vanilla Rome as well, if you had recruitable generals modded.

Yep, if they are not part of your fmily they are effectively capts in the sense of progression...

the only differenc is they get their own traits.

it is basically just the adoption screen but instead of adopting a local garisson commander, etc he is adopting a general. - its basically the same deal as marrying a princess to a general, he joins your family tree.

if they are familymembers or not has nothing to do with a Generals Traits

    no...

I said Generals are glorified capts.

The only difference is Generals have traits...capts don't.

I'm not talking about the man of the hour being new...I'm talking about it happening to a general instead of a captain...and I think it has been established that it is not new, just that I had never seen it this way before.

yeah that happened before, basically you adopt your general into the family (makes sense)

what you can also do if you like the general and can't get the adoption thingy, you can marry one of your princess to him. that will also bring him into your family tree. oh and it's a 100% success rate vs trying to use your prince to seduce a foreign general/family member
