    Default Egypt -help

Well I have been playing as Egypt about 170 turns in, using 1.5 turns per year. Even tough I choose the Long Campaign on H/VH Im still on only 26 provinces, (and declining.......) mostly due to money issues and supply issues. I usually like spending a lot of money on fully equipped jihad armies to go around taking revenge on the papal states for calling there crusades and other nations for joining it. But anyway heres my problem....

The Timuriuds have arrived at my doorstep (Baghdad) and are creeping across my provinces towards Antioch and there is no way for me too stop them. I had a colossal battle against them trying to get a close victory or at least slow them but instead got a clear defeat. Mostly due to the elephants which somehow rout 6 units of Tabardiyya and Half the army before i had a chance to kill a quarter of them. .

Yep, gotta hole up in a citadel or fortress. What ever the highest level castle is just sit in it with spears and archers coming out the ying-yang.

Also naffatun on the gates helps a lot.

Is there a good army composition that could help me take them out in the field? Since I have no good castles able to turn out Naffatuns which could easily get to Antioch which Is swamped by them.

DO NOT fight the timurids in open field, you could be using dismounted spear wielding ghotic knights and you would still take a beating.

Recruit the most spears you can possibly can and defend your settlements, it's the only viable way of defeating them without huge casualties (especially since you're already loosing money)

I don't know the Egypt roster too well. If you want excellent advice ask Dahir, he played Egypt, and would constantly inform us, of his conquer of the world. He eventually took it all over but ask him for some good advice.

Cannons. If you do fight them in the open you should try to have sarcen militias and some form of gunpowder arty, you'll lose but you'll take a bunch of those elephants with you.

I normally have a 3 waved plan against the Timurids. First wave's goals are: kill elephants, and as much of anything else (if possible). Second wave's there to annhilate the remenants of the Timurid's forces in the field. And Third Wave either recaptures lost settlements, or goes out on an expanding rush into the vaccum created by the defeat of the Timurids.

P.S.: This isn't easy, and i always loose huge amounts of soldiers, but it's more fun than waiting in a fortress imo.

when i was fighting them with the English, i was making my army with at least 10 squads of bow ,just for shooting fire ammo on these elephants who are really a pain in the neck.
Like this you make them become Amok and if you're lucky they gonna crash their own army .
And for the other units, a lots of cavalry and some foot men
But spike works good to against elephants.
And if you win a battle, Always run after the survivors, because the left amok elephants will usually stay on the field, so you can then kill a lot with your bow men
Try to always put your bowmen on a hill as well, as you gonna rise their shooting distance.
Another tactic i was using too, is to make one or 2 big army to attract them, and in the same time send a lot of small army to take their towns and fortress who were nearly empty.
Then you sell everything inside and retreat.
After a while, they won't have enough money to keep or make others army
Guerrilla style, pretty vicious, but quite useful sometimes

Field battles aren't that hard, but you must be on a monster hill. River crossings as well. Hire your own elephants if you can't. Artillery and fire arrows work well against the.

If you can deploy on a hill with some rocky outcrops to stop them outflanking you, then mass your archery to shoot down on them. Mamluke archers are great, and a couple nubians or desert archers with fire arrows to panic them helps too, then saracens to stop them and Kurds, halberds or Tabaryya to countercharge. Once you have some breaks, then launch the Maluke archers to finish the job

You can also just change the factors of the elephants to something sensible, as the current stats for them are stupidly high.
