    Default Financing the Teutonic Order

So, I picked up Kingdoms today and tried out some of the campaigns. I settled for the Teutonic Order. The beginning is nice, but there is a slight problem. In my 3rd turn I was in the negative with money.
So I started a new Teuton campaign, and got to the same problem. I played a bit more conservative this time, but money still ran out fast. Conquering small towns doesnt really help and the big towns and castles of the Lithuanians are stacked.
    Any idea's?

Youll have to go against Lithuanians. Thats what i did. Now i do about 20000 per turn...

Better yet, sack the Lithuanian cities with the armies you are thinking about disbanding.

Whether you disband them or they die in battle, they aren't costing you anything anymore.

Done two Teutonic campaigns to the "I will win, blah, boring"-point. The first I blitzes Lithuania instantly, one or two towns every turn. No money issues at all and no challenge what so ever.

In the second campaign I turtled slightly and had at least a minor challenge with lots of Lithuanian stacks, and later Novgorod, the mongols and Denmark all backstabbed me within two turns (funny moment and mad shuffling of armies). Still no money issue though.

You just have to play conservatively with your forces, you make due with one half-stack, or possibly two, for a long time. Try to skimp on the expensive upkeep units; I found Order spearmen to be the only unit I needed for auto-resolve sieges, add prussian archers for player controlled field battles and you're golden. Later on money should be rolling in pretty well, I had three to four full stack armies mid-game.

I had really fun campaigns with them, send 3 full stacks taking on islands around Sweden and then landed on Norway, used every units i could spare. Settlements was always attacked by Lithuanian since i had minimum garrison due to my invasion. luckily i got alliance with the poles so i was somewhat safe.

I found that if you blitz Lithuania it becomes very boring very fast. Once you have money rolling in and have 2 armies of the best units, you've basically won. Order spearmen are god-like but once you get the Ritter-something knights, well game over...

But i have yet to try VH...

You can try my strategy on Totalwar.org

I had to reset the campaign about 3-4 times before I got the hang of it.

Really? How are you handling Novogrod, Denmark, and the HRE? Since your focusing your attention on Lithuania those other three become quite powerful. Spearmen and Ritters do not suffice against heavy and light cavalry and the Order is horrible at skirmishing units.

The spearmen can handle the heavy cav easily, those order spearmen are probably the best spearmen in all of M2 & Kingdoms.

If they can't, counter them with your own heavy calf, Hallbruders and ritterbruders are both great cavalry.

as for light cavalry, you kind of have to prepare for it, as most armies I field as the teutonics are heavy infantry and heavy cavalry with a few pieces of artillary. But if you know you are going to be facing cavalry archers, just take 6-7 units of crossbowmen, and protect them with spears and knights.

True, they are the best spearmen in the game but nevertheless you still need mobility and the Order's heavy cavalry isn't enough.

My general army included 6 foot ritterbruders, 4 auxillaries, 2 spearmen, 2 foot halbbrduer, 4 Ritterbruders, 1 basilik and one general. This army did well in the west but was hard pressed against the eastern armies that fielded mostly cavalry. The Novogrods did eventually fielded balanced armies but they still outnumbered my cavalry.

For the armies that were strong in cavalry I fielded an army that included 6 spearmen, 6 Auxillaries, 3 mounted crossbowmen, 2 foot Ritterbruders and 2 serpentines (Accurate cannon) and 1 general and this fared a bit better.

Though in the end I mostly won by forcing the enemy into siege battles which forced them into one spot though I did suffer heavy casualties but hey I beat the campaign

The funny thing is that the Teutonics can still upgrade past the City level so I guess the manual's a little out of date. So in regards to the TO just move fast and hard against the Lithuanians.
