    Default New patch with SS?

This morning was announce 1.3 release to update the core of the game.
This should make a huge change conflicting with mods. I wonder if SS will even run on 1.3

I doubt SS will update anytime soon but it shouldn't hurt to ask
what plan does KK has for the mod with the release of 1.3?

I don't understand this. Kingdoms updates to 1.3, so why does a separate 1.3 patch make kingdoms compatible?

If you have kingdoms you already have 1.3 so no need for patch

If you don't have kingdoms you don't need "core Medieval II settlement data updated to function correctly with Medieval II: Kingdoms"

I must be missing something. The wording is misleading to say the least.

    Hi,

The things seem clear : Kingdoms patches Medieval II at 1.4 version (see the version of the exe) and a patche 1.3 will be release only for MTW II engine.

    Ok ?

It's a similar method which has been applicated at RTW and his expansion, BI.

So, if you want to play with your favourite mod now, don't patche your version of MTW II until it will be compatible with 1.3 or make a copy of it before patching it.

1.3 uses MTW II exe (but make MTW II compatible with Kingdoms)
1.4 uses Kingdom exe (automatic installation with Kingdoms)

MTW II exe and Kingdoms exe are different in several points of view.

    Sorry for my bad english.

I tried SS a few days ago with 1.3 version of m2 and it really worked fine. So, my suggestion is to install and see yourself .
Now I'm playing the new campaigns but I miss a lot the features of SS

The 1.3 patch is only there for multiplayer. It updates a few files in the core M2TW that would have prevented people who have Kingdoms installed from playing against people who do not.

So, it should not affect SS.

Also, from what I've read over on the official forums, I think Kingdoms calling itself 1.4 is the first bug.

I haven't started a campaign in SS since installing Kingdoms, but i've played some custom battles in SS and everything worked fine.

I'll be buying Kingdoms tomorrow. Hopefully SS will still work with it installed

Where's KK? Is he already adding Norway and Lithuania? Or maybe still on vacation? :-)

I agree with Neumanf15, all it seems to do is allow players with MTW II to play with those who have kingdoms. It does not 'fix' anything in MTW II, like pathfinding, AI (its just as dumb in kingdoms) etc., so pretty much a waste of time.

I think KK needs to figure out how to make Denmark and Kiev-Rus expand better, before adding new factions.

Denmark blocks itself next to Hamburg. Move German army south so both Denmark and HRE have the same chances for the castle and Denmark should be fixed. Adding a spy in Scandinavia would help them to. Next to Uppsala or even Oslo.

As for Kiev, expansion in Asia is very difficult as AI seems to be very passive to do exploration and then when it finds a city, usually Mensk, fails multiple times to take it. So maybe lowering garrisons all around Asia could help them?

HRE is before Denmark on the turn roster so they get an advantage to get Hamburg before Denmark even if both armies start off exactly the same distance from the castle. I'm just wondering if Denmark should start with an army and a spy up at Uppsala or Oslo: an extra spy on his own doesn't seem to make a difference.

Lowering garrisons for Kiev will make it too easy when the player is playing Kiev.

But if HRE wasn't close enough to Hamburg, they wouldn't head for it every single game... Now every time I play Hamburg goes black the second turn. I think we either give Hamburg to HRE or at least equalize the chances of taking it for HRE and Denmark.

As for spies, it's an EB trick to make factions take certain cities quickly at the beginning. It worked fine there, AI was taking the city it knew about as its first. This helped to control early expansion and also directions of this expansion. Let's at least test it here... :-)

We did though didn't we? Quark posted files that added a spy for Denmark to show them Uppsala. In all my games they didn't move a smegging inch towards Uppsala. They still focused on Hamburg and Groningen.

Ehrm, who cares if the AI doesn't expand? Denmark didn't take Hamburg or Uppsala and Kiev didn't conquer Asia. So it's working just fine I'll say...

The point is to make AI expand into their historical territories. So you don't want Seljuks go north but instead expand into Byzantine.

Also it would be very nice if we had the way to make Kiev and Novgorod divide Russia between themselves taking all the rebels in the area.

If the trick with spies doesn't work, I don't know what might. Maybe placing their starting armies next to cities we want them to take? But what if they fail to take the city? They will be seriously weakened for the whole game. I doubt there's a win-win solution for this.

    RE expansion.

Not being a odder I have a query.

If a faction is looking to expand does it check borders (ie my territory x has border with territory y that is rebel that I can attack)
or does it do a search from capital of territory look x squares NSEW for capital that is rebel or
is there a look-up table of territories that it checks to see which are rebel and sees if there is a path there? (and attacks the first available one on the list?)

or is there a fourth option?

until one knows the mechanism it's difficult to suggest a solution
