Default some thoughts after playing another mod / deus io vult

I just finished other mod - I write it here becuase maybe it could prevent SS (I want to start this mod) from bad changes. I suppose that something like 'bad changes" happened to DLV and almost killed that mod.

    1) Don't add too many factions. After adding last factions in DLV AI don't have terrains to expand. I remember fine empires to defend in first versions of that mod. Now, because of many kingdoms there is no place to expand for AI and we fight with many many many small weak kingdoms.

Of course - now we can play as Lithuania, Jersualem Kingdom, and many many many many more. Of course - it's fine if somebody wants to especially play with these factions. But they also prevent AI from expanding in all games when we play as "stadard" factions. BTW - I suppose that it would be more fun if we add extra units to mod. Not factions that are different only because they have "different colours".

    2) Be careful with combat system. I supposed that real combat was great. But unfortunatelly I didn't see disadvantages of this system.

Because of new solutions - we cannot "lost" general by accident. He always die as a last one or one of last. So we don't have to be affraid that we lost our leaders.

Because of that our generals are nearly immortal. We can use them as a primary offensive units. Because of great advantage of charge and fact, that AI rarely use more than 1 general in the bettle - we can defeat every enemy by creating armies of 4/5 generals. Nobody could stand against them.

Because our genereals are really tought, we don't risk loosing them because of battle.

After 4/5 turns we have generals with 7-9 experience points, who are invicible in the battle.

    3) Be careful with big map. AS I remember - SS had smaller map (am I wrong??). Of course - big map looks "fine" But as I saw - I can't cope with so many possibilities and he just play much more worse on such map. So big map isn't good solution

    4) DLV mod was great. Really great. Especially in first editions. But in my opinion some "upgrades" changed many things worse..

and last thing.. "Massive uprising" or something like that. Authors added something, that after sieging city defenders gain extra troops to defend.

Something really strange. All units that appear in the cities after siege - what should be very helpful for defenders - help us... How? Oh, I will say. Because of all what I said, the main force in my army is cavalry (general units). It would be very hard to attack defenders in this way. Because cavalry loose many advantages in the city. But AI gain extra troops... They have large advantage of infantry units and they sail out the town/ castle. So I can use my horses in the best way. So even all my sieges last only one turn. Siege. AI gains extra poor troops. They sail out. They meet my general units. They are defeated. In many cases I won't be able to attack walls because I use only general units at the beginning. But they sail out. Something that was added to prevent from fast expansion - is in fact just trap for defenders.

    4) Do you have any extra mods for SS? I want to start this mod now but I don't know if there are any super additions or something like that?

    5. Lusted's Campaign AI, RC 1.3b, Phoenix Skin Pack, Quark's voicemod and I have removed BYG's reality traits and supply system. Thats my setup, and I absolutely love it.

    I' m using :
SS 4.1, Rc 1.3b, Phoenix Skins, Snipafist Ai (better garrisoning cities\castle aggressive Rebels). Also lusted Ai is really good and perhaps better in diplomacy but i dislike the small garrisoning that sometimes you will find in cities.

I didn't remove reality traits. If i remove them i will go back to vanilla traits? i dislike them, they r simply too many and too random acquired ...

If you have any suggestion to improve my playing build it would be appreciated.

is that any mod to SS that add something like extra cost for all armies that are outside cities?

I want to increase speed of my armies but also add this good solution that moving and attacking is queite expensive

I gotta agree with this guy. It's liek things are getting carried away. You need more well tuned features, not tons and tons of more, more, more.
It seems that people who want to add better AI this or more garrison THAT are doing so on there own replacing a lot... I wouldn't mind the older versions of SS just being tweaked more and more on the battle balance of armour vs spears and less on the AI diplomacy of the campaign.
    Am I making sense?

I play lusted campaign AI. I'm impressed. I was so close to take magdeburg and stettin an HRE just take them before me! Battle AI is also OK.

What is fine that I spotted - don't increase movement rate. First of all my opinion was - so slow? Like slugs? What is the fun?

But now I spotted that we really have to plan our campaigns. Sometimes we have to attack cities because of bad traits if we siege them for long. AI plays very well with these settings.

What is more - with many many movement points we can shift our forces from one point to another and use them in many places on one turn. AI cant' do that. So we would gain a lot of disadvantages.

Now we have to send certain general or certain unit on certain front. We can't move him as we want many times. What is more - we must return to city for some time because troops starting to be weary

Perfec mod. PERFECT. it is the best mod ever.

All changes have to be really rethink - because now it's the best game I have ever played and it shouldn't be screwed up.

I just suppose that development rate is too fast - and you should add slower and more expensive building rate.

Now I play poland and I just builid everything is possible and create all units I can. It's too "arcadish"

Being Poland and wanting Magdeburg, Stettin and Praha forces you to use "all hands on deck" strategy. You take all your starting armies and send them to Magdeburg, ignoring Breslau (Wrocław) for now. You take Magdeburg and rush for Stettin. After you have it, you rush for Praha. After that take Thorn and Breslau to connect your lands. Use your spy to watch HRE if they aren't planning an early attack. This is very possible but also not that often, so don't worry.

I have never managed to do all this without hiring mercenaries and going half-bankrupt. A crusade on Riga after all this rush is advisable to make your economy recover a bit.

Especially that Riga is one of the wealthiest ports on Baltic after 1200 and a lot of development. By the way you can kill Novgorod. You have no sensible castle to guard your eastern borders. Vilnus is too underdeveloped and low on population to do the job properly.
