Graphics question

I have a question regarding the graphics settings. I was just looking for opinions with this problem. When playing the game, in battles in particular, the game runs choppy when the reinforcements on both sides enter the battle. I understand that there are thousands of units on screen. My computer stats are: Dell xps 710, intel core 2duo processor w/dual core tech/4gb ram/768 MB nvidia geforce 8800 gtx/500 gb hard drive. Normally with smaller battles I can run the game with high-highest settings. When the battles become huge the com struggles. I am wondering if I just have to accept the game being a system killer, or that my com isn't has hard as I thought it was. Or, if anyone else has what they would consider a real good system what they did to take care of things. I have lowered settings to compensate for larger battles, but just wanted to know if there was something else I could do to not lose higher quality settings. I just didn't think I would have problems with this computer no matter what game. Thanks a lot.

since your hardware is way over the top, you'll have to deal with it.

I recommend lowering the unit scale.

Basic stuff like making sure you aren't running any other programs that could use up your comp power. Monitor the temps. Clean it of spyware and junk.

My system is able to run everything at max, no problems. I haven't tested it beyond 4-5k units but battles don't usually get too high for me. Main differences are that I have an OCd 8800GTS, Athlon Dual Core 2.6ghz, same RAM, hard drive is 320gb 7200rpm.
