Default Teutonic Campaign - Dealing with Novogrod

    M/VH,

I've wiped out the Lithuanians leaving Denmark and Novogrod. Though Novogrod is spamming armies of light and heavy cavalry with some armies carrying heavy infantry. I'm not exactly sure how to deal with this.

I've tried an army of 6 spearmen, 6 auxillaries, 2 serpentines, 1 general, and 2 rittaburg but it doesn't seem to be enough. I was thinking of adding in 3 mounted crossbowmen.

Should I just go spam mounted crossbowmen and auxillaries against these guys?

As the teutonics its difficult as they are mostly heavy infantry and cavalry based. I could try and take their cities, hence, force them into seige battles but still.

yep...take all their cities and then wipe out the rebel armies wandering around your lands after you have finished dealing with that scum

Probably Prof's advice is best... I suggest force them to concentrate all army in to the front, form an alliance with Denmark and send several half stacks from Baltic Sea to attack its real.

I did that for Crusade campaign when I was using Kingdom of Jerusalm againsted Egypt, very useful. However, one thing to note that, the AI of Kingdom is much more aggressive than MTWII, as if they can find your weakness they would rush that point... so becareful...

    Scum?

Novgorod will crush the puny Teutons as if they were insects!

Burger(or however you spell 'em) are a great all-around unit.

By heavy infantry you mean berdiche?

I actually dont think they have Berdyche axemen. I played as Novgorod for quite a while now and I cant seem to upgrade my cities enough to get them. I wonder if anybody esle made them?

I'm currently playing as Novgorod and my stack of half Kazak half mounted Boyars is chewing up and spitting out any army thats been thrown my way.

A little too easy I hate to say.

As the Teutons (halted the campaign when it got boring) I resorted to using a general and X to 19 Order spearmen against the Mongols and Novgorod. Hit auto-resolve, solid win. A bit cheesy but I detest fighting horse archers when I have no solid access to "fast moving" cavalry.

If I had to fight them, I'd suggest using prussian archers instead of auxiliares. Easier to recruit, fires faster and they lack of range isn't a huge problem. 10 archers, 8 spearmen, general and a cavalry unit seemed to work well enough. Boring and unimaginative, but it worked.

Tried to do a "fancy" army at one point with like 5 mangonels, 8 dismounted ritterbrüder, a cleric unit, archers and some cavalry. Didn't work at all. =) Edit: Though the ritterbrüder sure makes any infantry that wanders close to them cry like they should.
