Default How easy is it to change....

    Unit stats.

Just been messing around with a few custom battles and many of the Islamic upgrade units are goosed.
Berbers to Nubians - same stats
Desert archers to Nubians - worse stats.

I'm sure there will be a few i've missed.

This is not about how uber a faction is,i'm not arsed about that but considering the cost to upgrade to these newer units and the fact that they have the same number of troops i'm going to alter it.
Naptha always seems like a sure battle winner and i may not use them in future campaigns so i want a more level playing field.

First of all i'm after the files that i need to edit, your help would be appreciated.

Secondly i'd like peoples input as to what changes would be appropriate in terms of stats and unit numbers.I suppose it feels more legitimate coming from someone else when i play.

What about desert raiders up to 150 men for example?

Please share your thoughts. Many thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

The RC approach tries to look at actual historic units and balance them out against each other. If you could provide any information about why, for example, Berbers were better than Nubians in this era I am happy to look at it and modify stats accordingly. Although there are some historians who have joined in the thread discussions on the RC main thread, as you can imagine its hard to be an expert on all of the factions in the game, so any input is appreciated.

Please don't take my post as a criticism of the Real combat mod or the work you put into it,i can assure you that was not the intention.I greatly appreciate the work you have done thus far with the mod and i wouldnt want to be without it.
Nor was i seeking to make ammendments based on historical fact.I was looking more at the different tier buildings and the units they enable you to build. The Fatimid Caliphate for example: Ranges.

    Practise Range : £3000

    Desert Archers

    Attack : 2
    Defence : 6
    Charge : 2
    Missile : 4

    Combat bonus in deserts
    Long range missiles
    Flaming Missiles
    Good Stamina

    ------------------------------

    Archery range : £6000

    Nubian Archers

    Attack : 1
    Defence : 4
    Charge : 2
    Missile : 4

    Long range missiles
    Flaming Missiles

    -------------------------------

    Archery Range : £6000

    Nubian Archer (max 5)
    Desert Archers (max 5)
    Peasent Archers (max 2)

    -------------------------------

    Marksmens Range : £9600

    Nubian Archers (Max 5)
    Desert Archers (Max 5)
    Peasent Archers (Max 1)

    ------------------------------

As you can see the Archery range and Marksmans Range are redundant upgrades for this faction with their best unit coming on the second tier.
It was small anomalies such as these that i sought to remove.Never was it my intention to question anyones knowledge of the time or to criticize the mod.

Thanks again for your input and all the best.

Ahh the EDB, well yes some buildings are pointless for some factions, especially smith like buildings. I suppose thats part of what you learn by playing the factions. Archery ranges are good for England, but bad for the Moors, I don't thing there is a way around that, as some factions are better in certain areas.

As to knowledge and critisism, thats fine, its only by people pointing out inconsistancy or balance issues that we get to fix things, or at the very least discuss the why's and wherefore's. 100's of SS testers are far better than one or two who cannot check out all factions, and I certainly do not claim to be an expert on all things medieval.

Several people have played around with the EDB, M2_Junky, OTZ, Clavicus Ceaser have all realesed mods which look at this area.

    Anyway, have fun.

    Cheers Quark

The Fatimid's are not so over encumbered with units that i'm prepared to have one wasted, i'll find a use for the Nubians somehow.
Maybe i'll turn them into a good garrison unit with a little hike of their melee stat and leave the Desert archers as the main battlefield missile unit.
Who knows? I'll find them a job somewhere
