Re: eire?
Go to the export_descr_unit file, take Ireland off the list for NE Bodyguard and add "general_unit" to Irish Mounted Bodyguard (the name in changed to Ridire in another file) instead. I don't think this will be save game compatible though, as some of your generals will be without any bodyguard and crash when they go to a battle.
You might be able to just add general_unit to Irish Mounted Bodyguard and place it before NE Bodyguard in that file, in which case any generals that have NE Bodyguards might keep them and all new generals will get the Ridire instead!

Re: eire?
Hope it works alright. I changed it all for my own use before starting out on my epic campaign that saw me take almost all of Europe as far as Constantinople and most of North Africa, the Turks are next.

Re: eire?
Sorry mate, only seen this now. I put in mounted pistoleers because of a lack of a better unit model with a firearm and to show that the Irish weren't backwards muck savages, as the common though of them seems to be, but that they were fairly well up on warfare until the English took control of the island and outlawed any kind of arms or armies.
Since we can get the mounted calivermen from kingdoms (notice the Irish have decent units in that too) that look a bit closer to the way they were than guys in plate armour, they would be the best option I think. The guys with the cloaks wouldn't be bad for deaisbards or another elite unit either.

Re: eire?
Any way to force multiple Irish melee units with ranged capability to be 'infantry' or 'cavalry' in group selection? I found that to be amusing, when selecting whole army by Ctrl+m.
That was possible in RTW, i mean there was many units with ranged ability, but threated as melee.
I found that they have skirmish on default is off, but this not enough for me.

Re: eire?
I put them with skirmish turned off because, bar the kerns maybe, the rest of them ran at you, pelted you with spears, darts, crap and then moved into hand to hand. Its alot like what the romans used to do.
I agree that it does get annoying that they throw a spear when you want them to batter someone with it alot closer up, but what i usually do is just hold Alt (the cursor changes to the sword instead of a bow/javelin) and then attack them. It works with a single unit as well as multiple units selected together, everyone flies in from all directions and melees away to their hearts content!
