How do I use themes for xp?

Hey I never used themes before, but am looking to start now. I found a theme I really liked, so I promptly downloaded it before realizing I was absolutely lost.

Also, if it works for xp it'll work for media center right?

Update: Alright i found some themes and I think I know how to make it work. Problem is, is that whenever I select a theme that's not default, the wallpaper that comes with it works, but all my windows and stuff look like they're from 98. Help please?
