    Icon5 Naval Warfare

    Hi there.

I've been playing RTR Platinum and loving it, but one thing that has been bugging the hell out of me is naval battles. I swear they are done randomly. On so many occasions have I had a vastly superior fleet in, in terms of skill of the admiral and numbers, but have lost. And very often if I do win I will lose almost all of the fleet. What exactly has been changed about naval warfare in RTR? It seems like the outcome of the naval battles is determined randomly, but I doubt that is so (but if it is I am incredibly unlucky ).

    Thanks.

in my medium/medium campaign as the macedons, i lose ships no matter how experienced or big my fleet is. 1 seleucid bireme against 4 mac quinqueremes plus 4 triremes; result? 2 quinqueremes sunk, 1 bireme sunk. repeat for egyptians and greeks. It's frikkin' expensive, fighting at sea ...

Well when I was playing Carthaginian campaign my ships was sinking everything in their way. I usually used the fleets of five ships and later they all had 3 gold chevrons.

I don't think that naval battles are resolved randomly. And it depends on what difficulty you are playing.

Yes I've been playing as the Macedons for a couple of days now and got pretty far, but have constantly had problems with naval fighting. Is it just the Macadons that are unlucky at sea?

Definately not just the macedonians, as the selevkids it's frikin'

hard to fight battles at sea, especially against experianced rebels.

Six quinqueremes and a second navy of ten triremes could not defeat a navy of

    a single longship

I have the same problem. A fleat of 2 biremes, 2 triremes and a corvus quinquireme (i'm playing as the Roman republic), was defeated by a fleet af only 4 longboats.

That was the Illyrians I suppose? Might be explained by their silver chevrons though .... nasty sailors!
