Default Units won't stay in formation

Whenever I manually position my troops and tell them move forward they won't stay in formation. Is there a way around this? They seem to listen when I use the default formations like double line etc. But I hate using those 99% of the time and prefer my manual placement.

If you make your units form a group (Ctrl+1, for example) they will stay in whatever formation the group was when it was formed. So if you change the formation after forming them into a group, you need to break the group and reform it.

Yea, position them BEFORE grouping, then they'll stay in that formation.

I've had the same problem and have never known the answer to it. (i just work around it)

When i move my entire army forwards they stay in formation but they seem to go into a diagonal line. I want them to stay in the straight line.

if any one knows the answer to this please help me ;-) Also is there a HOTKEY to move units forwards and backwards. (it would help with pikemen after deployment finished.

Cohesion is a big problem with vanilla, I think a number of mods better support it or fix it but I can't be sure. I just drag my formation lines everywhere and have to reform them when they get there but I manage.

They need a patch to fix that. Hopefully they worry about a 1.4 for M2TW and not patches for Kingdoms or Empires.

I think that if you select a unit,
hold down Alt or CTRL and then click new location this will keep the Unit facing the same direction it currently is at least this is the way it was on previous TW games. Why this is not the default I dont know. Why would I want to pull some troops back and have them face their backs to the enemy highly annoying.
