Best modern tank of TODAY.

See title of thread. Best tank fielded by any army.

For me, it has to be the M1 Abrams. Fire control, communications and coordination, armor, firepower, and mobility.

Of course, I know that there are many who would contest this. Among those being "OMG CHALLENGER2, LEOPARD, THAT ONE FRENCH TANK, T-*insert number here*"

Dismounted, you have the wrong forum. This goes in the VV, I believe.

Most of the main battle tanks of today are fairly good. It's not really that logical, however, to list older models over the more recent models.

Get rid of T-70 and 7-80 and Leopard (1). Also, get rid of the M60 Patton. We stopped using that back in the 90's.

The Swedish tank is the Strv-122, and it's not much better than the A5DK, only abit more armour but that won't save it from the new tungsten penetrators.

Now on a more political note it would be very helpful if Sweden actually sent some of their tanks to Helmand and help their Scandinavian brothers... The Taliban is having a comeback

Sweden uses modified Leopard no? So not really 'their' tank, despite the pissing contest threads like this create the fact is most of the western mbt are similar enough that in the end it really doesnt matter...its a battle of centimeters rather then meters.

They are built in Sweden under license (I believe)..

The Leopard 2(S) is a Swedish Army variant of the Leopard 2A5, which has received the local designation Strv 122. It is based off of what was then called "Leopard 2 Improved" and features increased armour on the turret top and front hull, and improved command and control and fire control systems. Externally, the vehicle can be distinguished from the Leopard 2 A5 by the French GALIX smoke dispensers, different storage bins, and the much thicker crew hatches.[2] It's also equipped with a new command system. The Strv 122 is considered to be one of the best Leopard 2 variants.

Actually they are even more similar to the A5DK version that I first thought.. Yay, we actually have kickass tanks too.

Very true, but apparently the easier maintainance and lower fuel cost wins the contest for the Leo2, as firepower, armour, and speed is almost identical because they (Leo, Abrams, Challenger) uses the same technology.

Please don't get me wrong.. the Abrams is a killing machine, but it's overrated compared to the Leo and Challenger by its combat record. Tbh killing a bunch of useless and outdated T-72s (at best) just isn't that impressive...

T-80s and T-90s with night visions and laser painters would have been more impressive. Perhaps we'll see that against Iran?
