    Default City to castle conversion

    Hello,

I'm playing a game as turks and wanted to have swordsman guild so I have to first have an assassin guild in a city to train Hashishims before I can get that in a castle.

However... I did not know that once you upgrade to stone wall (I think) you can't convert back to castle...

    So this kinda sucks >_<
Is there a way to convert it anyway to a castle? By modifing some file or a cheat?

I guess there's a file somewhere that keeps track of everything build in every city on the map. Perhaps deleting the stone wall entirely would enable me to convert to a castle?

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Why would you want to change to a castle? Just build the swordsman guild in another city. And by the way, you can't have two guilds in a city and demolishing a guild is bad for your reputation with the guilds (less chance of getting offers for new guilds/ upgrading ones and less mission offers.)

Because I like to play with certain borders and not conquer the whole map instantly. Plus I already did so much in order to get the assassin guild & train those Hashishims.
I dont mind the other things, I knew that before I started it. I just didn't knew you couldn't convert back to a castle with upgraded walls...

Surely someone has a solution for my problem?

Well, matt already kinda solved your dilema, if you want a swordsmith guild then just train lot's of infantry on one of your fortresses, then move your hashashim's there, and on the way slaughter some rebels for easy exp

Turks don't have any units besides Hashishims that allow swordsman guilds points.
Therefore you need to get the assassins guilds in a CITY, train a lot of Hashishims, then convert back to castle, demolish and 'hope' you are awarded a swordsman guild.

The only thing I did wrong was upgrading the city walls which won't allow me to convert back to the castle which was the whole point. It's rediculous you can't convert back because you can convert a citadel (huge walls too) at any time to a city... but not vice versa..

Does anyone know how to edit this error in my savegame? (Removing the walls alltogether in the settlement (file) would probably do the trick)

Why do you want a swordsman guild? Just use the assassin's guild. If you were to demolish the assassin's guild there is no way you'd get the swordsman guild.

    ...?

Because a swordsman guild allows you to train (retrain with Hashishims) units with 1 higher attack.. One castle with a swordsman guild and 2 nearby cities with a assassins guild is my goal.

I'm asking for a solution not another way around the problem.

Are you Egypt, the Ottomans or the Moors?

Can't you get the sword's guild by recruiting spear units or cavalry as well? My Armoured Sargeants get weapon upgrades, and they use spears, i think you're taking the "Sword" part of the name a bit too literal

As already mentioned I play the Turks.

Here is the list that gives Swordsmith guild points:

Sword and Buckler Men, Sudanese Tribesmen, Swordsmen Militia, Armored Swordsmen, Highland Nobles, Zweihander, Noble Swordsmen, Forlorn Hope, Byzantine Infantry, Battlefield Assassins, Norse Swordsmen, Dismounted Feudal Knights, Dismounted Chivalric Knights, Dismounted Gothic Knights, Dismounted Conquistadores, Dismounted Italian MAA, Dismounted Broken Lances, Dismounted Norman Knights, Dismounted Polish Knights, Dismounted E Chivalric Knights, Dismounted Byzantine Lancers, Dismounted Latinkon, Hashishim, Urban Militia, Dismounted Christian Guard
As you can see only Hashishims are on Turks roster. Therefore you need to do a lot of extra trouble to get a swordsmith guild.

Any unit can get the weapon upgrade once it's build though however you do not get guild points by building spear units.

    My solution: Restart campaign

Modder solution: Start those settlements off with the guilds you want and restart campaign.

Your best bet for your plan is to move west to the Byzantium region or south to the holy lands, very close cities and castles.

Buy one of Egypt's provinces and start again from that city? That seems a lot of trouble for a simple weapon upgrade, especially since you'll probably get a swordsguild from the fortress of Corinth or in the island of Cyprus (i'm already assuming you'll be conquering the Byzantines )

Actually I put all generals and units on a boat and sailed to take portugal/spain territory.

Anyway, I've also heared someone said it's possible to demolish armories and then rebuild them for swordsmith guild points too.

("Build armourer series: +10/15/15/20/25/30 settlement, +0/0/0/1/2/5 others")

Has anyone actually tried this themselves with succes?

i have done that with both horsebreeders and swordsmith guild but it take a lot of time and when i finaly got one i hand build up points to get it that was offered it in 2 other settlements shortly after

an easyer way would be to mod the descr_guilds.txt
