    Default Games Keep Crasing

    Ave Engineers of Rome,

Ever Since I took that 512mb of RAM out while trying to test it my games keep on crashing. Thing is, I never always had 1.5 Gigs with this computers, my games used to run perfectly, and some what better, with just 512mb! Actually, All of my Programs have been doing it too.

The Following have crashed so far:

    FireFox
    Star Wars: Empire At War
    Star Wars: Battlefront 2
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
    Paint.NET
    Rome: Total War

Is my computer going crazy or am I?
All Drivers are up to date, and if you want my specs just see the spec thread.

    Ave Master Engineer Freddie,

No I did Not, and It was a wonder How the guy at CompUsa got it in there in the first place. Really Annoying because I really wanna enjoy my last few days of gaming and I haven't been able to play a game in a week. Virus scans picked up nothing.

And I Really Need a good answer, unless I can get 2100$, no new computer for me..............

In what way can you not get the stick back in?

Random theory, if the motherboard has dual channel, would taking the RAM out of one the dual channel slots but leaving another stick in a non-dual channel slot cause this problem?

Ave..... I'm not saying your name ,

When I try to put it back in, it sticks up on one side.
Strange enough the stick is slightly bulgier than it's brother......

Just try putting the ram in the other way!!!!! This one foxed me a while once, until I worked out that the pins on the bottom weren't the same length. Just match the length of pins on to the socket and push down firmly.

It went in so it will go back in!

Really.. get the same person that took it out to put it back in. And worse comes to worse you don't need a new computer, just a new RAM or worse, a new motherboard.

Ave Matt and Freddie of the Engineering Corps.,

Not only was the guy fired, but the whole store went out of business!

Freddie, I'm Not stupid. Either Way, Upside down, right, left this way, that way, I've tried it all! And If my dad finds out about this...... Not only will I not have an ass but he'll take away the computer.

The Moron, He thinks you can get electrocuted even with everything unplugged...

If the RAM originally fit and worked properly then it most definitely will fit again. There are tabs that need to be pushed down prior to installation on the motherboard, the RAM will only go in one direction (make sure the notch fits over the part that stick up towards the bottom center). Finally make sure the RAM is perfectly level and that the ends are in the sliding grooves that are in the tabs. You will need a fair bit of force to get it in, additionally the tabs should raise up as it goes in to a point where they lock it into place (raise piece into end grooves of RAM).

The biggest keys are keeping it level and correctly orientated. RAM was designed this way so that techs could quickly and easily add RAM.

If it still won't fit then something has been damaged and is preventing it from going.

What motherboard do you have? If you don't know, what model number is your gateway (I can find out what it is from that).

Also, what slots are your memory using (size, speed and physical location)?

This is just to see if you have an optimal configuration for your memory.

Download the Prime95 program and leave it to run for a few hours. Run the 'torture test' with 'In place large FFT' selected (this option tests RAM more, the others are more about CPU/Cache)

If it fails then it is hardware rather than any software/registry corruption. That is when things get.. interesting. I'll check up here later to see how you get on.

    Ave Engineers,

I'll get back to you on those questions later, but the test did confirm I have a hard ware failure, but it didn't tell me what it was.

I also did a little registry cleaning and fixing with CC clean. barely anything.
