    Default Watchtowers

    Is there a way to remove watchtowers from the game, so they can't be built by any faction, through a text edit? If so, which file(s)?

    I don't think you can remove them - or at least not easily!

    You can make them cost too much for anyone to be likely to build them though,
    cost is set per culture in descr_cultures.txt
    the normal cost is 200, I just checked and you can make it 200000 - which should stop anyone building one in normal circumstances!

    I see. I'll do what you suggest, since it sounds like a good alternative. Thank-you makanyane.

    Edit:

    I was so frustrated on trying to remove a general's rally ability so I can use the phalanx ability of his bodyguard, I didn't think about descr_char. I think I'm going to remove the build_watchtower ability for a general and see what effect it has on the game. I'll post an update to what effects I have.

    Edit:

    To remove the ability to make watchtowers, open the descr_charater file and scroll down until you see this;

    Code:
    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
    starting_action_points	80

    ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
    type			named character

    actions moving_normal, moving_quickmarch, garrison, assault, attack, besiege, entrench, ambush, diplomacy, bribe, exchange, building_fort, building_watchtower
    Remove building_watchtower to disable watchtowers in the game.

    Now, back to my frustration of trying to figure out how to get my general's bodyguard unit to use the phalanx ability instead of being stuck in phalanx formation with the rally ability in its place.

    That certainly looks like it should work, unfortunately it doesn't for me! I just tried using that file to remove bribe ability from diplomats (always wanted to do that), that didn't work so I tried the watchtower thing as well, and that doesn't seem to work for me either.

    If it's working for you, could you let me know if you are using RTW or BI and is it in mod-folder? Also did you change anything else - like trying to take them out of cultures.txt?

    Sorry no idea on the general rally problem either....

    Edit:

    I am such a fool! I somehow, by sheer, dumb-luck, tried building ALL of my watchtowers on unsuitable terrain when I was testing! I will try to edit out the watchtowers in the culture file and give you and update soon.

    Edit:

    No, deleting the files in cultures only gives me a CTD with no error report. Dang, looks like I goofed big time. This is what happens when I stay up all day and all night to mod! Sorry about that. Looks like your solution of changing the price tag to astronomical proportions is the only viable way right now. Hopefully, the AI won't bug with the high prices. I'll mess around with the watchtower files some more, and give you an update if I get any results. Something must be done about those cursed watchtowers and the blights they are on the beautiful world map!
