The Greek King was residing in his Royal Palace in Kydonia. Almost a week ago a big cloud of smoke could be seen ascending from Italy. Most probably Rome fell to the Germanic People. But there was no confirmation yet. The King was getting impatient.
Not that he cared about Rome or Germania ... but since then the clouds had changed their colors into a frightening mix between red and orange. People were scared, rumors of the return of the gods or the coming apocalypse spread like wildfire. The army was patrolling the streets to keep order, but with every day the panic grew. Not even the greatest oracle could see the reason behind the clouds, they were blind for the future. A bad omen, a very bad omen indeed.

A messenger hurried through the palace into the throneroom.
"I bring news from Italy, my king! Rome has fallen! Most of the roman provinces are surrendering to Germania or declaring their independence, only southern Italy is still under direct Roman control, but will soon be overrun too. Germania has now unchallenged control over Europe, there is nobody left to withstand them."
"Like I expected ... but what about the clouds?"
"Every trader, every scout we ask says the same, they are everywhere! But nobody can read them."
Next morning
The king was watching the horizon, the strange sky was still making him shiver. But then he could see something more terrifying, a gigantic smoke cone could be seen over the endless blue sea. He called his advisor.
"There, what is this? Sicily? To see smoke at such a distance, half the island must be burning ... maybe Etna is breaking out?"
"No, this is not Etna, this is not Sicily ... it's Northern Africa!"
"How can this be? Carthage is not at war with anybody, such a gigantic fire can't be made by nature!"
"Maybe this was what the sky wanted to tell us ..."
A slave came running completely breathless to the King and kneeled before him.
"My king .... Arisphanes sends for you ... immediately ... it's Egypt ... Egypt is burning!"
"By the Gods, what is happening?"
Only a couple of hours later smoke could be seen from Sicily and the Levant too. The King met with his generals.
"Whatever is happening, it's moving north, we are next! Prepare the army, man the walls, close the gates ... NOW!"
All but one general hurried out to carry out their orders. The supreme commander followed the King to his balcony.
"If both Carthage and Germania couldn't stop
it, how can we?"
"We don't even know what is coming, but we have to try ..."
He was staring into the sky, it still didn't change. Suddenly something very fast ripped right through the clouds, shining like a star, but in a toxic green. With an ear-shattering explosion it smashed right into the northern wall, pulverizing everything nearby and leaving behind a blazing inferno and a deep crater. More stars were falling from the heavens unto the city.
It was coming.
Suddenly out of nowhere a strange, almost inhuman face appeared over the city.

For a few more seconds the green stars continue to hit the city, then it was silent.
Out of nowhere abhorrently distorted men and women appeared all over the city.
They wore a full body armor probably made of leather and metal, some of their hands were hooks, knifes or other weapons an human has never seen before. On their skull they had strange mechanical devices, one eye was always radiating a red light. The little skin that could be seen was pale and swollen like the dead. It looked like their armor and weapons were part of their body. They started to attack every surviver in the burning city.
The King and two of his honor guards barricaded themselves in the royal throneroom. Out of thin air three of those half-demons appeared. The brave greek attacked. One soldier slashed at the first demon's arm, but it had no effect. The second soldier stabbed another one right into his neck, but the monster just grabbed him at his throat with his mechanical hand, then he stabbed the greek in the neck with a small knife coming out of his hand. The third Borg attacked the King.
"You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

The rest of humanity had as much luck as the greeks ...
Earth is now Borg.
