Default does England become more difficult?

you start out by having basically half the amount of settlements in the map, and a very strong army. i deliberately set myself back by abandoning Ireland, but.. are there supposed to be scripted events that sets England back further?

P.S: SUPERB work on archers, they actually kill stuff now! hurrah!

I can imagine that Edward leaving and the Baron's Alliance rebelling would set you back. In my campaign (Scots), England lost half of it's mainland provinces to the Baron's Alliance and is still trying to retake them (after Eddy came back), not to mention Ireland has thrown the English completely off their island.

Then again, that's the AI and not a player.

I just know an event popped up and said Edward was being forced to the Holy Lands by the Pope...however

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
He returns several turns later with a hardcore crusader army much to the dismay of the Welsh and Barons

Analysis should not be diverted by reflections upon the zeal with which the victors at the end of the Second World War punished the defeated for war crimes. The victors were animated by the ideals of the Atlantic Charter and of the United Nations. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was about to peep over the eastern horizon. But first, they wanted a little hanging.

In my Scotish camapign (VH/VH) the Irish took over the entire Ireland and the Welsh managed to seperate England from Baron Alliance while Edward was away. Meanwhile I destroyed about 90% of Norwegian armies and have control of entire Scotland. I have like 5 sites of famous battles with Wallace against Norway. Now Edward is back and he is trying to take back settlements from Wales. Right now I am building an army to face Edward.
