Did I get Milan permanently excommunicated?

When I declare war on the pope, I get permanently excommunicated.
I made myself allies with the Pope then attacked a milanese army which was near an allied pope army.
Now, the Papal states has declared war on Milan.
Is it permament?
Milan has been ANNOYING. Hope they get ripped to shreds by all the other Christian factions.

once the pope dies and a new one is reinstated, the excommunicated factions will be reconciled. although, sometimes if you bully the papal states around, you will still be excommunicated through a dozen or more papal elections. it will stay like that until you kiss up with the papal states.

Milan is the most annoying faction in my game too. Well they must be annoying in many games, I mean a single city is ripping its way through all european superpowers... HRE are its Vassals and the French are only surviving because I have given them millions of cash...

Milan and Venice should lose the game by losing their namesake city (You hold Milan and Venice for 100 years and the Milanese and Venetian empires are still sending stack after stack of turtle archers to their doom against your ballista towers, that's deep)

I mean the Kingdom of Aragon is a rebel state, but Milan is an empire!

But every time I tried attacking the Papal States as a muslim faction, EVERY Christian nation declares war on me.
And they never ceasefire.
But, Milan isnt being attacked by other factions, it ALLIES with France, HRE, Venice, and Poland.
My only ally is the Papal States. Fighting Venice, France, Milan, Poland, Hungary, Turks, Egyptians,Moors, and Byzantines AT THE SAME TIME.
My trade income has gone down the toilet.
My holdings are are 3 cities in upper Africa, Sicily, Southern Italy, Venice, Eastern Adriatic cities, Aegean, Thessalonica, Niceaea, and Constantinople.
The Byzantines NEVER attack me. Just stay on the outskirts of Nicaea with like 3 full stacks.
The Milanese keep sending MANY spies. I found some 7 on one turn in Venice.
Venice has only Iraklion.
France never bothers me much. Neither does the HRE. But they dont want a peace treaty.
My game is virtually ruined. Waah!

concentrate all forces on Milan - wipe them out and the other factions will make peace. When I played as Milan Venice flooded my territories with spies and assassins. I had to mass produce spies to fend them off and stop them from killing my generals. Be SURE to include at least 2 spies with the armies going after Venice or you'll find yourself half way to the objective without a general.
