No, it does not change the original game.

I'm curious, where in the world are people getting this idea that expansions add things to the original campaigns and such?

I mean is Kingdoms really that different from any of the other expansions? Did Vikings, BI and Alexander add new things to the grand campaign?

Sorry but that just sounds crazy. That you cant believe that people are thinking that expansions should add to the original game.

I know for a fact that vikings added new units and Im sure theyre others.

I'm not even going to bother trying to get you to understand that point.

    Viking Invasion did.
I also know for a fact that the new factions in vikings were not added in the original game either yet there are people asking for that.

don't think BI did but the stuff was quickly modded in.
Which doesn't count. I'm talking about officially here yet I don't recall people asking these same questions.

And if we want to get to that point, CA staff are already making a retrofit mod to bring in those features which puts Kingdoms similar to BI.

Other games like Diablo, Diablo II, Baldur's Gate, BG2, Morrowind and many more featured expansions that added to the original 'vanilla' experience.
I think I should make my point clearer.

Not all games are the same. Starcraft II Broodwar didn't add anything to the original game. AoE series didn't either and neither did Warcraft for that matter. Alexander and BI never did so why should MTW2 be any different?

In comparison with the other expansions, the amount that would be added in from Kingdoms to the original would be quite numerous compared to the other expansions "just" adds new units.

Vikings definitely did, and so far was probably the best expansion for a TW game...I haven't played Kingdoms yet, but based on what I'm seeing so far, that should be a fair assessment.

Er, nobody asked for the factions from VI to be added in. VI was set several hundred years apart from the 'start' of the timeline covered by the GC. Kingdoms involves factions who existed either at the start or would form later in the timeline covered by the GC. Two different situations.

"In comparison with the other expansions, the amount that would be added in from Kingdoms to the original would be quite numerous compared to the other expansions "just" adds new units."

Honestly? I don't see how Kingdoms adds more content than BI, whilst Alexander was a cheapo add-on scenario.

i think that when you install barbarian invasion ,you also update the original game Rome total war to patch 1.5 or 1.6 if im not mistaken.. with bug fixes ,and better Ai..and if that wasnt enough better game shadows

My original question comes because inthe kingdoms Q/A with the developers

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=105178

    they told...

    --------------------------------------------------------------
1)* Will factions from the core game have new units, any new siege units, ships??

Yes! ....................... But you will all have to wait to find out what

2)Will the new "control reinforcements" option be available in the "core" (original) campaign?
We are currently looking into it.

3)How many of the features in the expansion will be added also to the original game?
This is still unknown as of yet and being discussed due to balance reasons

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

THe developers never told the core game will not see improvements. but suggested the oposite. perhaps my question should be more about the original campaign ,if it will also be playable in the expansion pack with some features and improvemnts of the new expansion like.. new Units ,mp hotseat, control reinforcements.. and so on... im not expecting to see teutonics ,heroes or any new faction in the full campaing but at least some new units in the *unfinished factions* that they left and that should be there in the original campaign or game.

just like it happens with many other expansion packs in other games..

An expansion that doesn't expand the original game can't be considered an expansion. Right??? No need to be an Einstein too work this one out.

and just for the record almost all other game expansions do add content to the original game except perhaps total war expansions that add only mini campaigns or whatever you wish to call it.

and thats where in the world we get that idea.

I don't expect new units or factions at the "old" grand campaign. But small improvements would be nice e.g. boiling oil, better AI...

Knows everybody if boiling oil is available for the grand campaign?
