Hilarious...my first turn with Kingdoms...

So after carefully musing and mulling over which to play first (from the Americas selection) I chose the Apaches.

Loaded it up. Spent about 20 minutes checking out the building browser, reading all the unit info, etc. Said, "ok time to move some armies around" and sent an army led by the Chief's Son (same thing as Prince) on its way to the closest rebel settlement. Move my spies, then call a warpath on another settlement and have my Chief join. Press "end turn."

Pretty simple right? Just the first turn.

Until this happens...

Haha my first turn with Kingdoms and the damn heir to the throne rebels, leaving me with just a 47 year old man and no heirs. On second thought I think I'll play as New Spain first.

I thought heirs could not desert - yet here is the evidence to the contrary. I am sure there would be adoptions coming up if there is a risk of extinction.

It was funny because I did have an adoption offer come up, and I'm like "wtf, already? no thanks" then see the second notice is "Betrayed!" lol

Had that happened to me in Vanilla as well

Heirs do have loyalty issues though so you have to keep an eye on that.

Was his loyalty really that low? That's pretty bad, you'd have to keep daddy with him until his loyalty gets up.

Perfect start to your campaign.....priceless infact!! What are your other thoughts on this campaign though....what is the immersion/gameplay like?

I'm playing as the Apache as well, and it's brilliant imo. It's my favorite setup: you're isolated at first, but suddenly you meet everyone at once, and they're powerful, and you're chilling up in SoCal and AZ and Texas and if you send scouts and emissaries south it's quite thrilling.

The campaign is challenging enough to be fun on M/M, you have to slowly retrain and train troops.

All in all, super immersive, only reason I'm posting here is because I remember about some chapters I needed to read.

Remember a while ago in Vanilla, the Byzantine Empire (I was Scotland I think) fell after about 5 turns, must have been something like what happened there.

The exact same thing happened to me. My first play, I chose the Americas campaign and started with the Apaches. First turn, my heir deserts me. Classic.

Hahahaha freaking classic indeed. The old "Chief's Son Helaku desertion" trick.

Reloaded and played as both the Apaches, and as New Spain. Both factions are very different, and very cool. The apache unit roster is actually pretty amazing, and the native infantry slugfests where everybody is getting hatcheted are a real riot to watch. With Spain I've been just taking rebels as I watch the Tlaxcalans destroy Aztec stacks while I give them an occasional bankroll.

The Americas alone could keep me busy for the "70 hours" of gameplay advertised on the box. The music is awesome too.

So true, the campaign is so compelling, I'm already thinking of what faction to play as next, and how mods can improve things. Though tbh for a vanilla release it's quite good. And the music is brilliant, sets the mood perfectly.
