Default Ran no Jidai vs. Shogun Total War

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I'm a huge STW and MTW (I) fan. RTW was a bit of a dissapointment, mostly because the AI in the previous two games were so good.

So how will this game compare to STW? Unitwise I can see there's a bit more of a selection, but AI wise? Building wise? (Will you use a BI type invasion to simulate the Mongols if you're adding them?) Any other comparisons?

I'll probably be reinstalling RTW just to play this game and Blue Lotus TW!!

MacMillan doesn't compensate for variable humidity, wind speed and direction or the coriolis effect. Mother nature compensates for where Macmillan's crosshairs are.

One thing you can be sure is that it will be a lot more realistic than STW...
It won't be on the level of EB but there will be no Geishas and Ninjas, the names of starting generals and clan territory will be accurate as possible, unit names will be authentic and there will be no "Samurais wielding their uber-katanas hacking through hordes of peasants" kind of thing.

You know despite all its problems, I still think Shogun is my favorite and I enjoy it more than the newer total war games. Which is why I am so looking forward to this mod, because it is an updated version of my favorite total war era.

I guess to do my other favorite period in history, the Thirty Years War, would require a gigantic overhaul in the political engine because it really wasnt a war of conquest

Cool. I really liked the AI Formations utilized though. (Square, offensive Right, Defensive Right, etc.) and the Battle AI would actually flank me when attacking and would perform maneuvers to get the high ground. Is there a way that a similar Battle AI will be implemented (as in will the battles be longish, and challenging?)

As far as I know, AI is partially hardcoded... So we can't go too far on that part, but there will definitely have some major changes compared to the original BI "gameplay" on battlefield... About formations, we use Darth' mod for them...

i hope the stats of the units make the battles last long enough to be tactical

Imagine all these years of work gone to waste if the battlefield performance of the AI was just as sucky as in vanilla BI!
BI's AI was cetrainly better than vRTW.................

Yes, there are very noticable improvements such as maintaining its battleline better.

Yes, youīre right about the hard-coded AI being the same.
    I guess I used "AI" as a catch-all term, I suppose.

In any case, Darthmod is as good a base as they come!

True enough that the AI has improved from STW. I suppose we Total War players have improved faster, thatīs all.

Of course, I really havenīt played much since MTW1, excepting one EB run - itīs been one long waiting period of that next patch, then the next mod, then the x-pack, then the new game, etc. etc.

Iīve decided to end the waiting cycle as soon as the best battlefield and campaign mod for Kingdoms appears, whether it is Darthmod or something else.

And yes, Iīve been waiting for Ran No Jidai ever since it was announced, too...
