Default One problem lead to another, now I'm frustrated...

So, I bought Rome:total war about a week ago, and really liked it. I was running 1.3 when I downloaded the All Factions mod by Hader (for 1.5) so I was like "oops" and went and downloaded 1.5. It still didn't work so I figured "oh well." Then, I got a CTD on 1 of my games and it kept happening on the same turn so I figured I'd reinstall. I went to reinstal, but I had to just uninstall and then install again. When I finished install I got some weird message saying a bunch of stuff I don't remember (I would copy/paste, but I can't) and the at the bottom of the error it said "Acess Denied". It gave me the options to abort, retry or ignore. I hit ignore (had to like 5 times it wouldn't go away) then, it closed all the screens and put the shortcut on my desktop.

I clicked it to play, it seemed to start ok and then I get another error saying "Failed to Initialise 3D Audio!" ,clicked ok and then everything closed.

I uninstalled again, but before I installed this time I checked to see if all the folders were still there, they were (at least I think the mod by Hader was) so I deleted the folder. then I installed again, but the same problem keeps happening.

Please help. I assume I really screwed up here...

If you can help, please explain everything in detail so I can understand. I'm not computer smart... at all.

EDIT: I also have BI installed, which I uninstalled after RTW. I'm beginning to suspect that has something to do with it.

EDIT #2: I looked around and found that the game was installed into a folder called "The Creative Assembly", I tried deleting it, but it said access denied.

EDIT #3: I restarted my computer and it let me delete the "The Creative Assembly" file, the "Rome:Total War" file inside that, the "Miles" file inside that, and the 6 weird files inside that that had the names "MSSMS or something.

I tried installing again and I think I found the problem: when it asks what folder it wants to install in, it says "c:\program files\the creative assembly\rome:total war" than stead of "c:\program files\activision\rome:total war". I have no idea how to fix this, please help.

At this point, I'm going to stop trying to fix it, as it has become clear that I have no idea what im doing. Any help is VERY, VERY appreciated.

What OS are you using? Are you logged on as an administrator?
Access denied is usualy an error when a program is not installed by a user with admininistrator priviliges.

Installing to "The Creative Assembly" is OK, it is the default for SEGA versions of Rome.

Put you CD in the drive, open my computer RIGHT CLICK on the drive where Rome CD is an select OPEN.

Click on setup.exe. It will give you 3 options. Modify Repair Remove.

Since you manualy deleted parts I'd go with Repair.

If that doesnot work try remove.

    Good luck.

Thank you very much for the help.

Ok, I put the dis in, went to my computer, got to setup.exe and clicked it, it didn't give me the modify repair remove options but it let me install, so I tried that.

It installed to "The Creative Assembly" and I can play it without errors. Everything seems fine.

I'm worried, though, that there are some rogue files around that will harm my computer somehow because of all the deleting I did. Also if I can ever get mods again?

But, for now, the game is working fine (lost my save files, but its a small price to pay to be able to play again) had to change the options to my preferences again.

But, again, its working OK. I'm just worried it won't last.

EDIT: I'm not sure what OS is, but I am doing all of this on the adminastrator.

Also, when I installed it again it had patch 1.5 already, even though I bought it with 1.3.

    Is this normal?

OS is Operating System. Windows XP / Windows XP 64 / Windows Vista etc.

If you were able to reinstall and all appears normal, I would not worry.

I always recommend using 3rd party uninstaller and registry checker. Google them, there are many free/free trials.

When installing mods be sure to check the Install/FAQ for each mod. Most of those that use mod switching are ok to install to your main Rome directory, some are less multi-mod friendly and recommend a dedicated installation. Always make sure the mod you want to install is for your version of Rome. RTR Gold is for RTW 1.2; RTR plat is for RTW 1.5.

Current versions are Rome:Total War 1.5; and Barbarian Invasion 1.6.

    Game on.

If you just bought a new copy of gold edition, you were lied to. RTW is patched to 1.5 on the disc, not 1.3 like the manual and most people will tell you, so there is no need to patch RTW, but you do have to patch BI to 1.6.
