    Default Nice Gaming Laptops/Notebooks

    Do you know of any?

My current college laptop can't run anything except Civilization III and it's driving me crazy since I'm such a PC gaming freak - thus restriciting me to only play the latest and greatest (and even all the games I have from 2002+) to only the 4 or so times I come home during the school year.

So I was looking around for good gaming laptops...any suggestions.

I saw an add for Toshiba's Satellite x205 Notebook but damn...that sucker is like $2,000 for the "good" version and like $3000 for the "great" version.

I'm looking for something between say...$500 - $1000...$1500 max I'd say would be nice.

I'd say check the big names and see which has a better deal. You could build one if you were feeling adventurous but there are only like 3 laptop shell case thingys out right now so there won't be much of a selection. And it probably might even cost more.

Any regular visitor to the basement knows my feelings about playing games on a laptop. The sort of budget you have set out is more appropriate for a decent desktop PC build, you’re not going to be able to get a decent gaming laptop for that sort of money.

So called gaming laptops represent very poor value for money, the best laptops have the 7950 Go Nivida Sli chipset in them yet, and those laptops set you back around £2000 to £3000. For them same money you could get monster of PC which would flatten that laptop in any benchmark you care to mention.

You may feel though that even though it’s a lot of money and whilst you may not get comparable performance you still want to play games on it. Well ok, but remember this laptop primary purpose should be for your school and project work, components on laptop are a lot more susceptible to failing because heat is major issue and the lack of ventilation will causes laptops to overheat and pick intermittent faults which are hard to trouble shoot. And when it goes wrong it will be the day when you need to hand in that assignment.

If you want to play games on your laptop stick to playing minesweeper.

I agree with Freddie with regards to laptops and gaming. If you must game and also need a laptop then go for a cheap laptop for schooling and spend the rest on a Lanbox type gaming desktop (smaller and lighter than full desktop).

I agree with the others on here, you won't find laptops at a good value that will play modern games well.

If I were you I would just keep your old laptop for school, and build a desktop for gaming.

I think ASUS G1S is quite good (Balanced in both wieght and horsepower in turns of the 15 inch screen laptop).

But then again, unless if you gonna be moving alot in the future then desktop is really the way to go
