Default What faction is the easiest to start out with?

I'm talking about the starting factions in the beginning.

    1. In terms of location, which faction has it the best? I'm playing as the venitians and their location is horrible, but I'm still owning.

    2. In terms of military, which faction has it the best?

    3. In terms of agents, which faction?

military-wise, everybody is pretty much on the same page. location-wise, it is a no-brainer. just pick whichever ones are far away from anybody.

for example, England, Scotland, Danemark and Moors have relatively good starting locations. Russia is fairly remote too, but the distances between its cities are annoying as hell.

btw, Sicily also has a very good location, they are also conveniently located next-door to Papal States . but you will need to rely more on shipbuilding if you want to get around.

the most suicidal starting locations are Turks, Venetians and Holy Roman Empire. you are getting invaded from all directions real fast. Turks get it especially hard, since they are usually owned by Byzantines and countless crusades, and then by Mongols and Timurids.

Lol, my advice when playing as turks.?

expand out a bit to baghdad and northeast corner of med, before setting up army gather points for your citys... creating 3 big armys.. and declaring war on the byzantines.

It can be hard at some points but damn does it give you land, wealth, and power.

Not quite down destroying them yet (they still got greece) though im hoping that if I take greece hungary will stay of my back.

Let's just hope they were fascist communist kittens who were on their way to international fascist communist fair.

I'm on my first Turkish campaign and playing H/VH. I took the Byzantines down first, went straight at them with starting units and as many mercs as I could get, help constantinople against a couple determined counter attacks and then consolidated the rebel areas nearby. After a bit a stabilization and building I took Byzantines out of the game and have never looked back. I mentioned it in another thread, but I basically did the 'Mongol' thing by calling a Jihad on Paris, making 3 stacks of Jihadists with all the mercs I could find and sacked Europe from stem to stern which fueled my buildup and prep for the Mongols who have just shown up. Except for the inevitability of the Mongols, I liked their starting position.

Keep in mind too that the Mongols come from the East, so they usually give problems to Russia, Poland, Hungary, and the Turks. And also coming is the Timurids wreaking havoc for Egypt and the Turks

    1. England has a very fine location especially for a starting faction.

    2. France has a powerful military late period, mediocre early however.

    3. Agents? Aren't all agents (aside from imam/priest) the same?

1 - I like Milan, although you'll need a strong navy to keep the Sicilians out of your ports. Great trading location, too.

2 - HRE is probably your best bet all-around, although their starting location is so bad it kind of outweighs it. Again I'm big on Milan; Italian Spear Militia are awesome, and they have the best crossbowmen in the game.

3 - All agents, minus the Imams/Priests, are the same...

    Methinks edders be right.

    1) Sicily, Denmark (with mods that give you more Swedish provinces) and England.

    2) See above (I'm an infantry sort of person.)
