Its available for d/l at their site. The d/l is only ~4 gigs though. Will this version take the DVD patches as released, or will it be like Direct to Drive or Steam and take weeks. . .?

I strongly advise to NOT download games from direct download sites. Every single game forum I have ever visited has dozens of posts with people who have problems with patches, expansions, support, mods, etc. Just buy the game from the store.

Quoted for truth, I cannot stress this enough, trying to download from a site was a terrible mistake. No mods!

There are exceptions to this rule, but I completely agree in regard to "mainstream" games like Total War.

Notable exception: http://www.ageod.com They do the bulk of their sales online, give you a serial number so you can install anywhere (not just on the machine from which the purchase was made), and their patches work on the download version as well as the boxed. Good developer to support if you like the type of games they are making.
