    Default Acquiring new ram, advice.

My laptop currently has 1Gb ddr2 533mhz of ram.

It can support a max of 2GB of ram. But all ram slots are occupied by the two 512mb caches (2*512MB).

This gives me the excuse to get two ram caches of 1GB with an even greater clock speed, perhaps 667mhz.

My question is, I can't seem to find the cataloges I'm looking for and them compare the prices. Do you guys know where two find a substancial array of ram catalogues? Be they Kingston, Crucial etc....

Also, since my laptop doesn't say anything about the ram's clock speed, I would supose there isn't any problem in getting two caches with a greater clock speed right?

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

Newegg has a lot of stuff. Also, you can see details about your ram in CPU-Z. I'm lazy so you'll have to google them.

Yes newegg.com is probably the best to look when browsing parts. From there you can get model #'s and then run them through pricegrabber.com or similar to compare prices.

You should try and find out what motherboard you have in order to confirm whether or not it can support faster RAM speeds.

Everest Ultimate Edition will give you tons of information about your computer, hardware ect. There is a trial version so it will not cost you anything.

First of all before you start purchasing ram that isn’t compatible for your laptop you need to establish what sort of ram is suitable for it. Go to Crucial.com and use the memory selector tool, when you get to the end of the wizard it will tell you what ram you need, and its guaranteed to be compatible and the right speed. After this you can go to places like pricerunner and then you can start to compare the different brands and prices.

It would seem my suspicions were more or less correct. The Crucial system recomends 2GB ddr2 PC-5300 (667mhz) for my laptop motherboard, exactly the specs I was looking for.
