    Default Faction List

I thought I'd throw this together, so at a later stage, we can have it pinned for ready viewing. One of the most important things in playing a mod is choosing which one, and you need several posts explaining what the mod is about, and almost always first clicked is the faction list.

It should be set out with each faction name, and a paragraph or so giving the broad spectrum of what the faction is about, its culture, army tactics (phalanx, maniples, horses etc), and who was in charge of it at 217bc. Also the territories it occupies need to be addressed. A couple of pictures to go with each faction...The icon, and the starting position.

So, we have... in Alphabetical Order.

    Armenia.

    The Averni.

    The Belgae.

    The Boii Confederation.

Kingdom of the Cimmerian Bosporus, The Bosporan Kingdom.

    The Cantabri.

    The Republic of Carthage.

    The Cimbri.

    Dacia.

    The Greek Cities*.

    Makedonia.

    Parthia.

    Pergamon.

    Pontos.

    The Ptolemaic Empire.

    Sarmatae.

    Scythia.

    The Seleukid Empire.

    Senatus Populesque Romanus.

    The Free People's*.

    *
Explanation about the Swap Faction Principle.

Thats the basic form, If the experts in their particular factions, *cough* Drtad *cough*, can whip up a suitable paragraph, i think we can post this when we reveal the new factions.

    Drtad, reporting for duty!

Armenia under the Yervanduni has endured many trials since they ousted Alexander's instated governor Ptolemaeus after a few months of rule in the late 4th century. Armenia, in the early era, was a very Eastern kingdom, with an Eastern culture and Eastern military tactics. However, with the Persians obliterated by the Hellenes, Armenia has become a Hellenic state, combining the heavy cataphracts and horse archers of the Easterners with the heavy infantry tactics of the Greeks, making the Armenian campaign a very unique experience indeed. Armenia historically created a vast empire stretching from Ecbatana in the East to Cilicia and Judaea in the West. With the vast quantities of resources and people available in the Armenian Highlands, creating an Armenian Empire should be a piece of baklava.

Perfect! Maybe add a line saying who the current faction leader is, and the current political situation? Like, We are currently under the Rule of Tigranes the Foul Mouthed, and we must be wary of the treacherous Seleucids to the south, and the Pontians to the west. Or something like that.

Armenia is currently under the rule of King Xerxes the Cowardly, so be wary of the Seleucids to the south who threaten your Commagenian possessions.

Xerxes of Armenia was the king of Armenia in 217. His Southern capital was in Commagene. Antiochus III besieged him there (Arsamosata) and Xerxes, without giving battle, surrendured and agreed to ally with Antiochus and paid a nominal tribute. That's why he is cowardly.

OK, whip up for the Romans.

Ave brave Romans! We find our self in a most difficult situation, never has the Republic been under such serious threat. We are under the consulship of Cn. Servilius Geminus, and C. Flaminius, and appear to be at a crossroads in our history. The scum Carthaginian, Hannibal Barca, has had the nerve to march an army into Italy, where he successfully defeated us at Trebia, although we struck back at Cissa, he is still an enormous threat. It is up to you General, to take the field with our legions, and send Hannibal back across the Alps. It has not been long since we drove Pyrrhus of Epirus out of Italian soil and unified the country, and we must be careful to protect and hold onto our Greek posessions during the coming war. We have already defeated the Carthaginians before, and we shall do so again, yet we should not get one sighted. Talks between Phillip V of Macedon and the Carthaginians are a sobering thought. A strong hand is needed to guide the Roman machine through this period of extreme times.

maybe mention the possibility of going into Spain, to cut the Carthaginians off from their main supply routes (as Rome in fact did) and i'd change "scum carthaginian" to "vile" - "scum" looks odd as an adjective (in fact, i'm not sure it can be used as one). also, you might want to make a reference to the pending crushing of Syracuse ( i know it's a swap faction, but still, jsut mention it). and perhaps something of shock like " OMG HANNIBAL AHS CROSSED TEH ALPS!!!1! HE MUST BE USING HAXX!!!1! HE'S IN OUR BASE PWING ALL OUR DOODS!" or something else of a similar nature.
