I've heard that when playing Flight Simulator X with add-ons, like ones that give official airlines and schedules, the game's fps is considerably affected. What would help with that more, extra RAM, or more CPU power?

Im a 'simmer' and use FS9 (2004). I can say with confidence that with those future specs you have lisited there you will be fine. If you use only repaints to include real airlines there will be no FPS drop to even think of.
If you use high quality retextures for the landscape and aircraft then you lose a few frames from usual, again, on your future specs it will be nothing to worry about.
However, with your current PC you will probably better off keeping the defaults. You will be playing on the lower settings.

Thanks for your help ^ Can you help with this issue at all?
I've now upgraded to an Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 system with an ATI X1950XT 256mb GPU. But now, when I load the FSX demo, the gfx are all messed up!
There are missing textures everywhere! My previous GPU was Nvidia 6600GT, could there be some old drivers hanging around causing conflicts?
Any help will be much appreciated!
By the way, thanks to all of you who helped me choose my upgrade components! MTW2 is now running like an absolute dream, with all maxed out!

The demo is quite awfully built. Buy the actual game, update to Service Pack 1 (the games patch, google it) and defragment your hard drive.
It should run very well.
Did you download the latest drivers for your card from the Ati site? Uninstall the Nvidia drivers, reboot the PC, install the new drivers and again reboot the PC?

So you think I'll be able to run at high settings then? Otherwise, there's no point getting it. Also, the standard version is only £17.99 at Play.com, but the Deluxe is £44.99. Is it worth the extra? I'm not interested in multiplayer and the only type of addons I get are things like Traffic and FS Passengers. I will not blow £10 or £20 on an add-on that merely gives me a new plane, not when there are so many available for free. I ask because I've heard that certain addons won't work with standard version of FSX.
Thanks for your help!![]()

I cant say if you will max it. But you should be able to run on high settings. Get the normal edition. The extra cost for the Deluxe is only worthy to flying enthusiasts.

Have you got FSX Standard? If so, could you tell me which add-ons work with it? Would it say so on the add-on's site, making it clear which version it works with?
Re the demo: Would you say that performance in that is not indicative of performance in the final game?

Definitely. The game, with FSX's Service Pack 1, is a lot smoother, SP1 will also support your Dual Core CPU.Re the demo: Would you say that performance in that is not indicative of performance in the final game?
Im getting FSX standard in two days. Im on a Pentium 4 2.66Ghz, 1GB RAM and a Geforce 6800 128mb. Quite aged specs now but I hope to play the game well with a bit of tweaking.Have you got FSX Standard? If so, could you tell me which add-ons work with it? As far as I know, there are not that many Deluxe only add-ons. It will say on the description if it is. The Deluxe addition comes with an ATC multiplayer mode (I like the idea of playing ATC but not for an extra £25) and there are a few more high detailed cities and airports and a few extra aircraft.

Excellent, so SP1 will make FSX utilise my dual-core! Are there similar packs for other games?
Re the add-ons question: I've emailed Just Flight to find out how many of their products work with FSX standard and I'll let you know the answer.

Yeah, they are called patches heh. Microsoft decided that their fixes were more worthy than just to be called patch 1.1 though, and I think they deserve it.Excellent, so SP1 will make FSX utilise my dual-core! Are there similar packs for other games?
Well im getting it for my birthday, and i think its already been bought, probabaly better to have it from a local shop so I can return it if my PC really isnt good enough for it.Get it from Play.com, £17.99, it's the cheapest I've seen it by miles!

As promised:
Hi,
None of our FSX compatible products require FSX Deluxe instead of the Standard version. They will work in either version
Unfortunately Airliner Pilot is not an FSX compatible title. For a full list please see the FSX Compatibility section on our website www.justflight.com

Thats good. I was thinking of just playing the default FSX scenery but those UK airports and scenery look great. Costs more than a pretty penny though.
The good thing about this game is the engine can't really go much further, so we're likely to keep the game for a long time, so any add-ons we buy won't be a waste of money that we'll use for about a year (or less).

Actually they are already working on the next one which could be released by late 2008 >_>
Depressing isnt it?
