Icon8 Tried to play MTW on laptop, campaign keeps crashing

For the nostalgia of it, I decided to pull out Medieval TW (the first one). I have been playing Shogun and Rome on my laptop, but not MTW. Both games run fine, though there are some very minor graphical issues with Rome (i.e. soldier stick legs). However, I can’t seem to get the campaign portion of MTW to run. I can play the instant battle feature, and the tutorial, both of which run fine. However, when I go to start a campaign, the game either pops back the menu you would see when you would save a game, or it just CTD. If I make the screen resolution and campaign map the same, then it seems to only go back to the menu.

Each time the game crashed, the error log recorded,

    C:\Crusaders\3dmap.cpp(3771) : DirectX call : E_NOTIMPL (UNSUPPORTED)

After installing the 1.1 patch, the error log now reads,

    C:\Med_Patch\Crusaders_TW\3dmap.cpp(3802) : DirectX call : E_NOTIMPL (UNSUPPORTED)

I have tried updating various drivers on my computer, and DirectX. I have even tried installing an older version of DirectX. I’ve tried all kinds of screen resolution combinations, but I’m not sure how to change the AA as suggested. Now I know that the video card in this laptop isn’t top rate (it’s an Intel 945-GM), but it is able to run STW and RTW.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this problem?

Have you tried lowering resolution in game?

Yup. I've tried every resolution and resolution combination.

I know nothing of Intel Cards, but for me this solved the problem. I was in the end able to make MTW run with 2X antialiasing settings.

i had the same problem, RTW worked fine but then MTW kept CTDing. i sorted it by putting antialiasing on 2x and vertical sync forced off.

    hope that helps

I have gone through the right-click to properties on the desktop, clicked on the settings tab, and then on the advanced button, in an attempt to find some way of changing the antialiasing or vertical sync. I can't seem to find either in any of the tabs or in any of the options within these tabs. Is there another way to look for and change these settings on my card?

The same kind of thing happens to me except from the battle map. I had to play entire campaigns with only autoresolve.

Some video cards just dont work with MTW1. I couldn't play it on my X850XT, but on the X1900XT it works fine with any res.
