RTR 6 Gold - Install Sequence

I've copied this post from the 'official forum' as it may be useful for helping people resolve some installation problems.


A number of recent posts have been about the error message "Unknown event string faction_defeated_by_player" as shown below from the post by rom8n;



Having checked with other members we think this has been caused by a corrupted download.

This was a known problem in the past. Unfortunately, the posts with these details were lost as part of the move of the forum and the restoring of the backed up topics. There were around 10,000 topics (not posts) to go through and they had lost the original titles - so they had to be read to see what they were related to and to see if they should be kept. I can honestly say that I never want to help out with that task ever again!

Anyway, as previously stated we think the problem is caused by a corrupt download or install. In order to document the install process (following the posts in http://www.totalrealism.net/download.html ) I downloaded the version of the game from the FileFront server during the Xmas break and have installed it as a fresh version of RTR 6 Gold. I have even started up a new Imperial Campaign with the installed game.

The following are the properties of the executable;



The executable is run against a clean version of RTW patched to 1.2. This will run an unpacker. The following screen shows the unpacker in action (it runs a DOS window which describes what is happening);



There is also a self-extractor progress screen that appears;



When the process has finished the DOS window needs to be closed.

The contents of the RTR 6 Gold folder will then look like;

If your install process doesn't look like the above then panic! If the folder doesn't look similar to the one I've got then try and work out what the differences are and post them with your bug reports.

When you launch a new campaign the following screen will be shown after the game has loaded (the message has dropped down the left hand side of the screen);



When the message is opened the following appears;
