    Icon5 Adding New Ancillaries

I want to add 10 lousy ancillaries. I've added the necessary info to
    export_descr_ancillaries
    export_descr_ancillary_enums
    export_ancillaries

    I get these errors:

    01:10:54.234 [script.err] [error] Script Error in JeromeBetisHatesApplesauce/data/export_descr_ancillaries.txt, at line 4324, column 11
Could'n find ancillary name string <Excalibur>.
    01:10:54.234 [script.err] [error] Script Error in JeromeBetisHatesApplesauce/data/export_descr_ancillaries.txt, at line 4328, column 17
Could'n find ancillary description string <Excalibur_desc>.
    01:10:54.234 [script.err] [error] Script Error in JeromeBetisHatesApplesauce/data/export_descr_ancillaries.txt, at line 4329, column 24
Could'n find ancillary effect description string <Excalibur_effects_desc>.

FUN TRIVIA: CA spelled 'Couldn't' wrong in their debugger.

    I did'n edit:
    export_ancillaries.txt.strings

I guess that's the string the error log is refering to?

The only tutorial I could find was alpaca's http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=77176

Looks indepth but dated in January. That was before the latest patch (and unpacker?) Is it obsolete? Is there a newer one or better method? An easier way to edit 'export_ancillaries.txt.strings' (then python and alpaca's little diddy)?

    Help

Alpacas convertor is all you need.

So I still need to screw around with
    export_ancillaries.txt.strings
    ?

EDIT: I can't find anything about .bin files or strings in the tutorials. Is it even necessary to have them? Could be error be caused by something else?

I don't know which tutorials you use, but this is a quote from my traits tutorial:

But export_ancillaries.txt is already in my text/ folder. So I don't need to convert the string files, right?

No, but once you've edited it you'll need to remove the associated strings.bin file so that the game can rebuild it (keep a copy in case something goes wrong) and I believe this only works in a mod folder.

Hmmm I tried deleting it but I still get the same error for every one of my added ancillaries.
After starting the game (and having it crash), a new strings.bin file was created. Maybe that's not the problem

@Joedreck: Is that an offer to look at the files? I'll post the lines I added as soon as I get home

    Preciate everyone's help thus far

i don't really understand your problem. you added the ancillaries in the 3 files.

it seems for me, that you made a mistake with your files, when i can see it, i can help. it not hard to create ancillaries, but sometimes you can make a little mistake and forget an "{" and thats enough to not running or you forget something like "Condition IsGeneral" or something similar. i don't know if you are a rookie.

you need both sting.bin and txt in the same folder otherwise it won't work and this is talking from experience.

For some people this seems to be the case, for others not. Don't ask me why, it might have OS reasons or whatever.

Yes, but I have the same error for all 13 ancillaries added. So it can't be a typo. I must have done something wrong.

Here's two. No point in me posting all 13, because they're all the same error.

    ;------------------------------------------
    Ancillary excaliber
    Type LegendarySword
    Transferable 1
    Image Tokus_Sword_08.tga
    Description excaliber_desc
    EffectsDescription excaliber_effects_desc
    Effect Authority 2
    Effect Attack 3

    ;------------------------------------------
    Ancillary Zulfiqar
    Type LegendarySword
    Transferable 1
    Image Tokus_Sword_11.tga
    ExcludeCultures northern_european, eastern_european, southern_european, greek, mesoamerican
    Description Zulfiqar_desc
    EffectsDescription Zulfiqar_effects_desc
    Effect Authority 1
    Effect Attack 3
    Effect Piety 1
    Effect TroopMorale 2
    Effect Loyalty 3

    ;------------------------------------------

    Here's the export_descr_ancillary_enums :
    excaliber
    excalibers_desc
    excaliber_effects_desc
    Zulfiqar
    Zulfiqar_desc
    Zulfiqar_effects_desc

    And the export_ancillaries :

And my eyes are ****ing terrible. I couldn't distiguish the difference between ( and { in notepad. Time get some goddamn glasses...

Yep that was it. Well, it was laced with a bunch of other errors but they were all from typos or other easy stuff to fix.

    Thanks again, everybody.

But hey while I got the quality here, I got a quick question. In export_descr_ancillaries, the "attack" attribute: does that effect the entire beneral's bodyguard unit or just the general?

i've made this new mod "Art of War" with new ancillaries and many more.

the arabic factions get their own ancillary pics. at the start of the campagne, they have the european one, cause i can't find the files, which specify this.

where i can find the start attitudes for the strat map characters?

    You mean the starting ancillaries?
I know that, they're in worlds/maps/imperial campaign/ exort_strat.txt (I pretty sure thats the name, but I don't have the game here).
Under some generals traits list there is one for ancillaries (but you won't see anything for characters with no starting ancillaries)
