Default Computer Improvement for RTW and M2TW

    Hello,

To upgrade this comp to play RTW quite well, and play M2TW, MTW, and STW, would a nVidia GeForce 8500 GT 512mb PCI-e or GeForce 6200 OC 256mb AGP overclocked to 375MHz and one or two Kingston 1GB 400MHz Memory work well?

    Current specs are:
Processor - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.8 GHz
    RAM - 510MB
Graphics - Intel 82865G Graphics Controller

    Thanks,
    RM3
RIP Calvin, you won't be forgotten.

Lets just say it should be a vast improvement. Do you know the model of your motherboard and what did you have in mind for an upgrade budget? We might be able to suggest something specific that could be better.

Bios: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A02

The reason I was thinking those pieces of hardware was because Future Shops back-to-school sale makes the 8500 GT 89.99 CAD, the 6200 OC 49.99 CAD, and the Kingston RAM 79.99 CAD. This is within my budget. Alternativly, I might be able to squeeze in a ATI Radion X1650 Pro 512MB AGP or PCI-E for 129.99CAD, or ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB PCI-E.

The Comp I would be upgrading is a Dell Dimension 3000

The x1950pro is vastly superior to every other card listed, the 8500 won't be good enough for dx10 so buying it for that purpose is pointless.

Also does that motherboard even support AGP/PCI-E ? I looked up the dell dimension 3000 and a few reviews say it dosent have either which means you will have a much larger upgrade to do.

Well the X1950 Pro is beyond my price range, so that is out of the question. I don't expect I will be playing many DirectX 10 games any time soon either, so I am not buying the 8500 for that purpose. I don't think I will be able to afford a new Mother Board either, so I may have to get the 6200. Will that improve RTW, and let me play M2TW and MTW and STW?

We need to know what motherboard slot you have in order to advise you correctly. Google CPU-Z in order to find your motherboard model, then post it here.

The 6200 is trash as well, you need to buy aeither a x19xx card or a 7 series. But unless you swaped out the mobo from that system it wont take any card anyway.

    MotherBoard: http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8...erboardxm0.jpg

I would prefer to get one of the GeForce because they are powered by nVidia.

Yer that board does not have a PCI-E or AGP slot, you need a new motherboard if you intend to upgrade, sorry man.

Afraid Doono is right, and that means you're inline for a complete overhaul, as dell don't exactly make their PC's easy for upgrading.
