How do you earn new factions to play as in The campaign mode?

How do you earn new factions to play as in The campaign mode? I think it might be b tottaly destroying them in a campaign but I might be wrong. I destroyed Scotland and then it appeared as a playable faction, or was it there the whole time, plz help!

Every faction you destroyed will be playable, but if you finish a short/long campaign ALL factions that can be unlocked will be playable.

other than finishing a campaign, if you destroy a nation in a previous campaign, it'll become unlocked. ive also noticed that if another computer nation destroys the nation, then it wont be unlocked for some reason..

Conversely, do a little search in the mods forums. All you need to do is replace one text file to unlock all playable factions. You don't need an unpacker or anything

Or install Stainless Steel. There are all of them unlocked + a few added like Templars, Aragon and Kievian Rus.

HAH! just finished short campaign as England and now have all those new factions!

or just edit desrc_strat.txt and place all but papal_states and slaves into playable section.

also when you move the faction to 'Playable' Delete it for its previous position.

yea, i noticed that all you have to do is complete the long or short campaign, but if you want those factions quickly, just play the shorty campaing. In RTW you only all the factions if you beat it on long, and if you did short, then you only got the ones you destroyed. I like it better that way, it seems like you should get a better reward for playing the long campaign in MTW2, instead of getting all of them either way, it doesnt really make sense.

Not to be off topic, but the other thing i noticed, is that it does not have the difficulty ranking anymore, as in rome it had the difficulty ranking for each factions campaign, i kinda liked that. Does that mean that in MTW2 there all the same difficulty, or am i missing something.

I like it you can get all the factions either way because many people would find it to be annoying they have to play for over a month just to get their faction, provided they didn't want to edit their files.

It just means they didn't put them in. Many can argue that the previous faction descriptions were off or not entirely correct depending on how you play.

Btw DO NOT put Slaves in the Playable section for they are the true Unplayable faction. There is supposedly a way to mod them but it would take awhile and its loaded with bugs. Best leave them in the Non.
