Default Star Wars or Star Trek?

Which do you think is better as a sci fi series Star Wars or Star Trek (BTW I don't want this degenerating into a usenet star trek/wars could kick star wars/treks ass usenet flame war) I want to know which do you like better or you may just decide that you likeone of the other sci fi series series. Note you can use the Expanded Universe for any series to also give your answer.

BTW for those idiots who don't know what I mean by other series, think Babylon 5, BSG, firefly/serenity, Aliens.

Now which do I think is better?

    Star Wars this is becuase

    1) THey have the force and the force kicks ass

    2) Even good goverments like the New Republic are flawed

    3) Have ground battles

    4) Light sabers; great fun with weapon that can deflect lasers and hack your enemies in half

    5) Credits; they actually have a ****ing economy non of that collectivist ******** on Star Trek.

    6) Time all beit I actually feel this is a little drawback of Star Wars because I think that technology could advance faster in 25 millenia however more believeable than going from discovering FTL speed to having near warp 10 in 300 years time.

    7) Smugglers arn't Ferengi

    8) The Emporor insideous bastard.

All beit no one in either universe can beat kirk in having sex with the most women ever.

And star Trek Dose have the Klingons.

I actually like both for what they are.

Star Trek is a Utopy with the difference from the Utopies before it, in that it doesn't show a Utopia for just a small number of people. Of course, the technological aspects of Star Trek are cheesy, but that is not at all relevant.

Star Wars is something completely different. Star Wars isn't even Sci-Fi. It's a fairytale (good vs. evil, magic (=the force), heroes, a princess...).

Now to paraphrase what Uma Thurman's Charachter says in Pulp Fiction

My theory is that when it comes to important subjects, there's only two ways a person can answer. For example, there's two kinds of people in this world, Star Trek people and Star Wars people. Now Star Wars people can like Star Trek. And Star Trek people can like the Star Wars. But nobody likes them both equally. Somewhere you have to make a choice.

    Lets see

SW: Over sized gigantic ships, with an thousands of years to advance + almost an entire population to call to arms.

    The Force

    Gigaton ranged weaponary

    purley dedicated militaries

ST: small fast attack gunboats sized ships compared to sw, that do megaton range damage, which will do jack to sw

Technobabble to win all of its fights including sw

ROB's, random omnipotent beings that will wipe the floor with sw with one thought.

has a few hundred years to adv to the level of sw+ in a few hundred years later, there playing with time, which i see sw not doing that

if this was a vs thingy, and the Imperials invade trek verse, 2/3 of the fleet would probably be destroyed by all the random nebulas/phenmomenons etc encountred by enterprise every week

but anyway voted ST cause they dont try to kick peoples butts, but manage to do it anyways, and make it look good

heck if they can beat the dominion with a fleet comprised of mostly long range explorer dedicated/defense ships, then they can beat sw

This YouTube video will end the debate once and for all. Watch the whole video to see what happens at the end!

    Star Trek Vs. Star Wars

Of course, I think that both are cool. Its kind of a tie for me personally.

This isn't a SW vs ST thread it asks you which do you think is better and then vote, or choose the 3rd opiton if you thought another sci fi series was better. Although I always did like that STvs SW film. But PLEASE keep the which would beat the other in a fight to a minimum.

My apologies, Kiljan. I had just thought that video would be appropriate for this thread. And besides, that video assumes that it is a tie between the two.

    I like Star Wars because:

    I. Cool villains, such as Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader.
II. Neat lore and history in the galaxy of Star Wars.
III. Many of the associated video games were cool, especially the KOTOR series.

    I like Star Trek because:

    I. Neat looking star ship, the Enterprise.
II. Many episodes are almost as epic as movies. Almost like 'short movies.'
III. Memorable cast of characters, such as Kirk, Spock, Picard, and Warf.

As I have said before, for me, it is a tie, although I lean a little bit more on the Star Trek side. And forgive me if I do not have enough reasons, I couldn't think of that much more.

    Star Wars all the way!
-It has the cooler ships (imo..even though the Enterprise looks nice...compare that with Executor)
-The villains are alot better than in Star Trek (Darth Vader, Darth Maul, the Emperor)
-Even so someone might disagree I think if you take the expanded universe into account (books etc) the Star Wars galaxy is worked out a lot better than Star Trek
-and lastly I somehow could never really get into Star Trek...I don't know why but somehow I just don't like it.

I think it is obvious to most people who have been here long enough that I picked Star Trek. You really can't beat it. Star Wars wasn't as original as Star Trek. Let's be honest. We'd all rather be Kirk than a Jedi. Why?

    1) Kirk gets laid.

    2) Kirk commands a starship.

    3) Kirk does whatever he wants.

    4) Kirk has beaten beings and entities which were GODS.

    5) Kirk gets laid.

I love utterly gigantic gun platforms that the Star Wars universe is replete with. Star Destroyers: Mile-long battleships with dozens upon dozens of gun emplacements. Super Star Destroyers: Multi-mile long uber battleships with hundreds upon hundreds of gun emplacements. Death Stars: Moon-sized starships with planet-busting doom laser and thousands upon thousands of gun emplacements. Plus there's the gigantic armies of thousands of millions of troops waging war across countless planets all over the galaxy. On top of that you have the Jedi ubermensch, kicking ass and taking names like nobody's business. It's pure awesome.

Though 40k is even better. It has the big ships, the giant armies, the awesome ubermensch, and then it makes everything utterly screwed-up just because it can. It's not emo, it's no a dystopia, it's motherfracking Warhammer 40,000.

Thats what option 3 was for, because you can always count those cutscenes in warhammer 40 K games as movies.

Who wants to be a Jedi?
    Let's be a Sith:

    1) You command an empire/a fleet/just something big
    2) You do whatever you want
    3) you beat those $&/§%" Jedis
    4) you get laid

    happy now?

    4) Yeah, but Kirk doesn't have to use spooky powers to get laid. He just is himself. And, I mentioned getting laid twice.

    And about this,

Since we all have seen how "awesome" and/or "pwnful" those blasters were when used against rodents in Return of the Jedi, I believe that the pro-Star Wars crowd can't say anything else. Even the Emperor said that they were "an entire legion of my best troops". Yeah, ok Emperor. Kirk could have destroyed that legion single (or as he likes to do) double fisted-ly. Man, that sounds gross.

At least you could aim with this thing at something that's more than 5m away from you unlike those ST firearms that don't have anything to target with^^ Also that's only th stormtroopers in the films...if you look at the EU you can see a lot of Stormtroopers that are what they are supposed to be: An elite infantry unit
But when it comes down to infantry combat...just scrap ST and SW ang give me a handful of W40k troops

    Another vote for ST here.

Maybe if G Lucas had not released those three terrible prequel films I would have voted both..... who am I kidding, no I would have voted for ST.

I have to say that even though Star Trek is right up there with Star Wars I like Star Wars better for the following reasons:

    1. Lightsabers
    2. R2-D2
    3. Darth Vader
    4. The action sequences from the movies I all thought were superb. Like who doesn't remember watching the huge Star Destroyer coming over head during the Opening on "A New Hope" and going "woah"

Arrogance is the Leading Cause of Defeat.
