... besides having them born in the same family tree?
There's a few more ways:
1) if a captain preforms well in battle there's a random chance you may be able to adopt him
2) a noble can marry your princess
3) one of your princess' can convince a non-married general belonging to another faction to convert to your faction if she marries him.
Attack rebal armies with only a few unitsof your own. When you beat them, you will get the "Man of The Hour" and you will be given the chance to adopt him into the family. This works all the time.![]()
About the trained generals, are they in your family tree? I would prefer all my generals to be in my family tree so they can have children to pass on traits/stats.
How do you get captains?
Are they automatically assigned to a unit when there's no general?
When you enter a battle with no family member leading your army, the first or most expensive unit in your army will get a captain unit - a mini general if you will. If you don't send in a general or switch out that unit, you can keep training him in battles until he could be eligible for adoption.
