    Default Marching in Formation?

Hi. Is there a way to make your units march in formation? Like, if I have all my infantry in a line to make them march in a line or if I have a group of phalanxes in a half-circle to make them march in a half-circle?

That doesn't work for me. Soldiers will only stay in formation when tasked straight ahead.

Group your soldiers (select all the soldiers you want to keep in formation, then assign them to a group by pressing ctrl 1 or ctrl 2, etc...). Then select that group, and have them march to where you want them to go. You can even click and hold to have them face a certain direction. They more-than-likely will break formation while marching to their destination, but when they get there, they'll go back to the formation you grouped them in. Remember, to put them in the formation you want before you group them.

I find the best way is to initially put your army in the formation you want. Then group the whole lot, with exception of cav as they move faster when running.

This means that with a simple drag and drop you have your entire army in the exact formation you made at the start. You can run/walk/move them all with a simple click, (this is why i dont group horses, as if they arrive to quickly they may be attacked or shot). Using this entire group formation is very handy if you want to attack quickly, move up/ back/ to the side of your opponent. If you dont do this, you are constantly trying to move individual groups about and the micro management can get confusing.

When im in postion, ready for action,i then group specific units, for example all my archers, or cohorts, etc etc so i can micromanage easier.

This really helps when you want to march your soldiers in Classic Roman military form like I do. I always play by house rules, so formations is a big deal for me on the battle field.

well there is a easy solution to your cavalry not going ahead of your troops, when you select all your units to go where you want them to go, press ctrl and "c" this selects all your cavalry then simply all you have to do then is press "r" at the required times this will keep your cavalry at the same pace as your infantry.

My theories would not be the best to go by, but the one in which you put three units of peasants in a certain pattern they can rout a unit of spartans/urbans, this is due to the fact that every unit has specific "low" points that if performed correctly you will sustain minimum casulties and will not even have to engage the opposition, this can only be done if enemy units have not more than two experience (chevrons).

I think it be best if I don't post any more advice on here otherwise I won't be able to beat anyone

EDIT: Sorry did not see the above question, if the units have more than two chevrons then you are (what is a polite way of saying it ) scrambled, best chance is to run as fast as your peasant legs can make you run, my mint flavored friend
