Did anyone else watch the Jewish special last night on CNN? The show did a good job outlining how complicated the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is. Before I thought that both sides were just pointlessly bickering, but now I see how serious the situation is, and how it is basically impossible to resolve it without there being a loser. Before I also thought that the Palestinians were being harsh on the Israelis, but now I see that was just American media telling me that, and that there are Israeli terrorists just as bad as their Palestinian counterparts. I look forward to watching the Islamic and Christian specials in the two following nights.

I thought that was only for Jews, so to a Jewish person that mother's daughter would be Jewish, but in the eyes of anyone else, she would be whatever she decided to be.

HLA Genes in Palestinians

Both Jews and Palestinians share a very similar HLA
genetic pool (Table 3, Figures 4, 5 and 6) that support a
common ancient Canaanite origin. Therefore, the origin

Genetic Studies like this one always show that the Israelis and Palestinians are genetically very closely related. Sadly I don't think it's going to make much of a difference.

The Palestinians are not Jews, they are Palestinian Muslims. They are perhaps genetically the same as said Jews, just like said Jews are likely to be genetically the same as any neighbouring Arabs, Lebanse and so on. I think "they are both of the same Semitic genetic heritage" might be a more appropriate and logical thing to conclude than "they are both Jews".

Such a thing does not exist. "Semitic" is a linguistic expression, designating languages of similar linguistic features, nothing else. Ivrit and Arab share such features, btw. Maltese and some ethiopian languages, too.

Yes and no. The correlation between language and genetic heritage is not perfect because people have often adopted the languages of their neighbours, trade partners or conquerors. For example, Turks are genetically over 90% caucasian but their language is Altaic and therefore indirectly related to Japanese.
On the other hand lingustic history very often correlates with genetic history – the Indo European languages being the best example. The history of languages is not an exact science but it is a very useful guide to history.
