    Default Units

Why sergeant spearmen or armoured sergeant don't have sword? Almost every book I read says that similar units had short sword and short spear + big shield +short chainmail (around 1st crusade) later around 3rd crusade long sword + short spear + big shield + long chainmail (short chainmail did not cover arms and hands). After 3rd crusade chainmail were so protective that Turks (and other muslims ) could not penetrate armour with bows(horse archers).Every chainmail were expensive (today for that price you could buy house - big house) Calvary did perform charges but once when thy engaged they have better position to cut inf. due to fact they have higer ground then inf. Newton gravity give them this advantage and they used it with most haste.Early siege engines were so bad that they could not penetrate any stone walls (they could perform biological warfare) they could lift only lighter stones not even enough to kill few ranks of soldier like in game. They could do some damage to wooden castles (most common in Europe at this times) against inf. ? WHAT FANTASY (they never perform on battlefield ).Ballista perform good agains inf. but not against stone walls and have better range than catapult.Catapult was weak good at throwing fireballs (burned oil) and rotten meat and nothing else.SIEGE ENGINES WERE BUILD ON SIEGES not in settlemens most of them never have wheels (ballista was not siege engine).Later siege engines could do heavy damage to the walls (they could lift heavy stones at range) but you can reinforce walls.Early cannons were not so good ,siege of Constantinoplis basilisk used in this siege newer penetrate inner big walls.Turks actualy got inside by luck( one little gate was not sealed). There is lots of missleading errors made in this game. They sould be corrected. Falanking on battlefiled was not so easy like in game most of the battle were resolved in frontal fight in game it is enough to have one mobile unit to win battle. Even when enemy were flanked or attacked from behind they could resist (and they resist if they wont to stay alive) and repel attackers.Proffesionl soldiers were better 10 times than any militia, militia in most cases was not good enough to be feeded (even Italian,) .And warfare even in early period were proffesinal thing or semi-profesional (well armed freeman) not townfolks thing.Like Romans said - not trained soldier is not worth feeding trained can do miracules.
