Re: Best way to defend against Mongols?
It actually depends a lot on the power of your PC, I can't defend cities because 3 stacks assaulting at the same time crashes my computer, when defending a reiver crossing against single or 2 stacks I have a diagonal line of archers on my left fronted by spears. a skirmish line of gorse archers across the mouth of the bridge and heavier spear infantry on the right flank and further back in the middle with whatever blade infantry and charging cavalry behind that.
Guns must have direct LOS to the ememy so can be hard to place, but catapults and trebuchets can shoot over the heads of your troops.
Generally pour fire into the right side of the enemy as they cross the bridge (non-shield side) and then let them get stuck into your spears, where possible bring you blade troups around to charge the flank or rear of the enemyand switch 1 or 2 archer untis to fire to pannic the Mongols, though not if your own trops are crap. Mostly it is just grind them up from two or three sides at once and run them down when they break. If your moral holds out you will win most of the time.

For sure if you are a an eastern faction don`t fight them on the battlefield but in a settlement it`s different. Let`s say you play has England. Be sure to have alot of archers good heavy infantry on your walls and in front of the gate. Put one unit of archers in friont of the gate and let them put stakes. This will slow their cavalery down quit a bit when they bust your gate but one thing you could try is to make sure you destroy their sieges equipment.

What I have done at this point is to try and siphon them down a long street once they get inside.

I always try to have like 5 archer units (or naffatun) in my settlement and try to burn their rams. If you can stop their rams you will win most of the time. Since you will be able to beat the small amounts of infantry they use. As long as you can keep their cavalry out you have the best chance.
