So, I recently installed RTRPE1.9 and, well, the campaign is messed up!
The selevkid campaign, in 1.8 it had an victory condition of capturing 50 cities
including a few specifics now all it says where that used to be is
"Victory condition [blank]"

A number of people have said that the victory conditions have been messed up. I don`t know what MC did in there. He was supposed to make the vicoty conditions more logic in thsi version because some of the old conditions were still there. For example Dacia(the RTR thracians) had to destroy Thrace which in RTR is Bactria on the edge of the map. It was left from vanilla RTW probably. But it is relatively easy to fix. Just open the file descr_win_conditions that is in:
Rome - Wotal War/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign.
If you do that, can you please post here what the section for the seleucids says? I don`t have the mod`s files atm.
PS: you are the one who managed to pass the 66 year, right? Is this to say that you`ve been using RTRPE v1.8 to get there and not RTRPE v1.9?
Yes I was playing 1.8 then I installed 1.9 since and haven't tried
to get past 66 b.c yet
edit: I'm in this category
C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
there's a whole lot of descr files and some the say (faction).map
I've found the Seleucid one but I can't open it what
program do I need?
No, you don`t need ot edit a graphic file. It this text file you want:
descr_win_conditions
You open it with the default notepad.
Inside there should be a paragraph for the seleuicds along the other factions.
Something like take regions, hold regions, outlive faction and so on. I`m guessing it`s something wrong in there. If it`s not I don`t know with what it can be related to. But, post here the section related to the seleucids so I can take a look.
Good question. It is the same as it was in v1.7 and v1.8 from what I can see. Maybe there is some other file that influences this.... Hopefully Maced0n has an idea.
Do you have the simple or the mod swtich version?
If you're having a few problems with VCs showing up weirdly, it's possible there is a typo somewhere before the problematic ones - a mis-typed faction name or conditions (hold_regions etc). So it could be that the problem isn't where the symptoms are showing.
I couldn`t see any either. I`ve sent a PM to MC, but he hasn`t been around for weeks. Who knows when he`ll be able to look into it.
Just checking my InBox and stopping in to read this topic. I never had time to make any changes to the descr_win_conditions.txt file, though maybe it was edited by Maced0n when he removed the last of the "romans_senate" faction items from the files of RTRPE. A folder named "data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion" was added by Maced0n in the files he added while removing the last Senate items from RTRPE. The descr_win_conditions.txt file in this folder, along with all the other files, are the exact duplicate of the same files of the "data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign" folder. The only exception is the descr_strat.txt file of each lists either line 10 as...
for the "barbarian_invasion" folder, or line 10 as...Code:campaign barbarian_invasion
for the "imperial_campaign" folder.Code:campaign imperial_campaign
I do not currently have RTRPE installed on my home computer, so will need to reinstall it. I'll check out an install on my computer and see what I get, letting you know the results.
Update: While reading another related post, I thought of one further possibility. Here is a link to the possibly related topic...
"uncultered philistine question about geography"
...and here is a copy of my post...
I just realized something, you are all playing the long campaign aren't you, not the short campaign? If you are playing the long campaign, the victory conditions are for the final turn of the campaign, which would be the Summer turn of 1AD. If you are not at this point, you will not have met the "long campaign" victory conditions. The long campaign victory conditions apply to completing an entire campaign, from Summer 280BC to Summer 1AD (for RTRPE).
If this is too long a game to play, I would suggest playing a short campaign. Or am I forgetting something concerning playing short or long campaigns. Short campaigns end either on the Summer 1AD turn or when you meet the conditions for a short campaign victory. Long campaign I thought you have to play through to the end, Summer 1AD for RTRPE, survive that long and meet the long campaign victory conditions. Its been a long time since I played Vanilla RTW, so I'm a bit rusty on this and may need updating/correcting.![]()

In a way, yes, by editing the conditions for victory when playing a short campaign, and then choosing to play a short campaign.
