Default Finally, Windows Steps up and...

Has Given me a clue to my 6 month problem. I got a BSODand this is what It told me:

A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down.

    KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any hardware or software is properly installed, If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for windows updates you might need.

if problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode restart the computer press F8. [I simplified the Safe mode sentence]

    Technical info:

    *** STOP: 0x00000077
    ( 0xC0000185, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x02614000 )

    Alright, what am I facing?

have you added a new hardware like a new VGA card or Rams (random Memory)... recently? if yes make sure you have the right driver for them ,if you did, then maybe your new hardware is not working well, this error also can be produced by installing a new system software like new wizards, corrupted drivers, system programes, some games.... .

finaly, maybe there are no problems like these up there,a system file could be lost or corrupted,so you need to repair your windows.

some times it could be a virus but this doesnt happen a lot.

trust these notes,i hope they help.

It means you system is trying to load a page from the page file it can't read, which can occur due to many reasons.

Concerning your case, you most likely have a problem with two devices attempting to use the same IRQ.
Anyway - some system specs and things you changed recently would help.

In December I upgraded my ram by 1042 Mb, Changing it to 1.5 gigs. I also Got a new hard drive, a 90 gig one to a Maxtor 300 Gig one. If we are desperate, I also got a wireless receiver back in February.

It may also be caused by your drive - (not bad blocks on it though) - according to your error codes first parameter:

0xC0000185, or STATUS_IO_DEVICE_ERROR, is caused by improper termination or defective cabling on SCSI devices, or two devices attempting to use the same IRQ.

A fellow gave me a link and and the error suggests a bad Wireless adapter, A bad Hard drive, or bad Ram. Those are all Things I have added onto the computer. How lucky Am I?

Default Re: Finally, Windows Steps up and...

I rather doubt it's the ram, otherwise it would have returned 0 or 1 in the first parameter - the hard drive itself is most likely not defective either...

IMHO, it's either an IRQ conflict with your wireless adapter or a problem with your hard drives cabling (not sure if XP error codes could refer to serial ata drives as SCSI though, presuming your hard drive is sATA).

Try removing your wireless adapter (what kind is it?) and check if the problem persist - otherwise, check your hardrives cabling.

Have you run the disk scanner? That's what I would do first.

I don't think any of the other symptoms you cited are necessarily related.

It's a good one: Linksys, It cost my dad 85$... But you have a point.

To tell you the truth, One of the symptoms of my problem was windows shutting down but the computer was still on. I experienced one a few days after installing my wireless adapter.

    These are the symptoms:

    Electrical Sounds,
Windows Shutting Down, But Computer is still on, so the screen is black,
    Lag,
    Usually low wireless strength.

This is easy, its small problem with the boot sector of your hard drive (could be your ram but try the hard drive first). Below is the fix.

View the System Log in Event Viewer for additional error messages that help you determine the device that is causing the error.

Bad block. Stop 0x77 is caused by a bad block in a paging file, or a disk controller error, or in extremely rare cases it is caused when non-paged pool resources are unavailable.

If the first and second parameters are 0, then the stack signature was not found in the kernel stack. The cause of this issue is defective hardware. If the I/O status is C0000185 and the paging file is on a SCSI-based hard disk, you should verify the disk cabling and SCSI termination.

If the I/O status code is 0xC000009C or 0xC000016A, this normally indicates that the data could not be read from the disk due to a bad block.

If you can restart your computer after the error message, Autochk runs automatically and tries to map out the bad sector. If for some reason Autochk does not scan the hard disk for errors, manually start the disk scanner. If your computer is formatted with the NTFS file system, run Chkdsk /f /r on the system partition. You must restart your computer before the disk scan begins. If you cannot start your computer due to this issue, use the Command Console and run Chkdsk /r.

Defective or unreliable random access memory (RAM) is another common cause of this issue.

Verify that all the adapter cards in your computer are properly seated.

Ensure that all adapter card contacts are clean.

Disable system caching in the BIOS to see if this resolves the error.

If this does not resolve the issue, your computer mainboard may be damaged.

Thing is, Even if Mcafee Could open up, which it won't do, it never picks up a thing. Is there a program specifically ment for scanning boot sector viruses?

P.S srry for typing like this but my dog is resting on my hand

Ok, sorry about that. I've had this happen before as well and a GPU driver update sorted it.

Try this (partly stolen from MS help):
    1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click your first hard disk.
    2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
    3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed.
    4. Select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.
    5. You will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check.
    6. Repeat steps 1–5 for all other disks on your machine.
    7. Restart your computer.

So Close Yet So Far, All it tells me is that it could not be completed and the only option is "OK".

EDIT: Windows is finally being nice, Today I just got an error after leaving my computer for an hour. When i came back, I got this error:

    "Windows"

    "Unknown Hard Error"

I also was experiencing major lag while trying to move the mouse, so I shut it off. Any new guesses?

I tried both options and my problem still persists. Should I try taking sticks of RAM out one by one to see if its a bad stick?
