To summarize an issue that has given the team many headaches, it was impossible to keep peace between Caesar and the SPQR before the Civil War. We found a solution but it did not meet our quality standards. But, in order to compensate all of you, we went on with an additional project which we hope to release in September:

Hey, Octavius, unfortunately not, as all the RTR stuff is reserved until the mod is released. But we have some nice legions on stock for you to play with:
All of them numbered and with a great historical description by Bucellarii:
Caesariani legions courtesy of:
- King Arthur
- Limes
- Ferres
- King Louise Assurbanipal
- RTR 6.0. (Caius Britannicus, I guess)
I hope I do not forget anybody...
are the legions pilum being held along with the scutum really its realism?? I dont see them like that in pictures or historical documentaries likely??
Oh and I been studying about the legions since. I cant seem to find the difference between the late republican or Post Marian legions and the Imperials which is commonly portrayed with the imperial Gallic helmet and
The Lorica segmentata. Which was really stronger?? though the imperials lokk stronger because of their updated equipment but I kept bumping to statements that says the age that the Legions were at its strongest was during Caesar and his wars whenever i read something........
Imperial Legionary Armor was stronger, but since gaul was long gone byt this time I guess there is no way to find out.
In fact, the debate between Imperial and Republican legions' strength is really disputed. The main point of discussion is the quality of the armour they wore. While lorica hamata (chain-mail/Republican) was apparently more resistant to hits delivered by shock weapons, lorica segmentata (Imperial) might have been better against missile weapons. Perhaps the change to lorica segmentata was more related to it being lighter and easier to mass-produce than to performance in combat.
And if you add to the mix the fact that lorica segmentata did not completely replace the other armours, but co-existed with them, then the issue can be classified as really complicated![]()
In fact, I am guessing that the performance of the legions was more related to their commander abilities than to the punctual variations in the equipment that they used. Trajan used his imperial legions against the Parthians and succeeded while Crassus, fellow triumvir with Caesar, who used Republican legions, was completely defeated.
So. The legions training during the late republic and the imperial era were actualy the same? nothing change much but the armor, the helmet and the scutum? just made them fancier to look at and yeah your right. The Commanders were the important key in bringing out the legions greatest abilities proven that it during caesar time was the strongest age of the legions right??
Probably the great number of outstanding commanders during the Late Republic, like Marius, Sulla, Lucullus, Sertorius, Pompey or Caesar had some influence in the legions being killing machines in that period. My humble opinion is that later, as Emperors were afraid -with reason- of successful commanders, it became increasingly difficult to find them.
salvor? I noticed something in the emergance of the helvetii in 77 bc. shoudnt they appear at the rhone river near the region of the sequani? they appeard at the borders of narbonensis in the mod??
