Default CTD after first RTR screen

Alright so I've been playing rTr gold fine for the past two weeks except for the occasional black campaign map. Other than that everything has been fine. But starting yesterday I would get an error message when I tried to play something like error 0000000x91 or something but then after taking the disc out and putting it back in it would go away. Thats where my current problem starts.

The game would begin to load and would get up to the rome total realism screen, the screen before the intro video. After a few seconds or so the game returns me to my desktop with no message at all. I've been trying for the past two days to play but no luck. Anyone experience this or can help?

Hmm the fact that you suddenly encountered it, reminds me my first time I set up RTR. Somewhere I didn't have clean copy and it also crashed after a week or so.
Maybe copy your savegames to a new folder, and reinstall a new RTR Gold version.

Normally that would solve the problems.

Sounds like you have installed the wrong patch, have you tried to add other mods after installing RTR?

Well I had installed 6.0 then 6.2 and it didn't work. Then someone told me 6.2 was the final game so I installed 6.0 gold over all of that and the game worked fine until a few days ago. So I guess I'll put my save games aside and try and re install.

Alright I re-installed fresh rome:tw and then 1.2 patch, then 6.0 gold. Everything seemed to be fine, but after my first fight from my previous saved game I get back to the campaign map and its black except for all the units and cities. So how I usually remedied this was go to a city and go to the view settlement option so I can see the city when its not in battle. Then I exit to the campaign map but its still black.

So I start a new campaign as the romans and the map is still black. So how can I fix this, delete the map.rwm file or something?

Sounds like an issue with your hardware, have you tried getting new drivers for your videocard?

I haven't in a while, but I am bought a new one the other day and its currently being shipped. It's strange how it would happen after so long of playing. Its happened in the past but not this much. Maybe I'll check into those drivers.

Alright so I download the drivers and it seems to work. But instead of going completely black now the campaign map is darker. Other than that everything is fine. So thanks.
