Aristotle, Newton, Einstein's wife (allegedly)
Ibn Rushd, Terry Pratchett, Niccolo Machiaelli and Isaac Asimov.
Socrates - For being the greatest philosopher of them all, daring to question the "knowledge" of the Sophics, and giving his life rather then leaving Athens for his doubt in the Gods.
Hume - For being of sound mind and generaly having an excellent grasp of logic at its purest.
Me.
And...
No, just me.
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison
i agree with Hume but i would add John Stuart-Mill
among his brilliant philosophical musings he did many great things
he was i believe the first MP to ever suggest that women should be allowed to vote. it is also claimed he was a genius of substantial proportion IIRC Stamford University believe him to have had an IQ of over 200During his time as an MP, Mill advocated easing the burdens on Ireland, and became the first person in Parliament to call for women to be given the right to vote. Mill became a strong advocate of women's rights and such political and social reforms as proportional representation, labor unions, and farm cooperatives. In 1869, he argued for the right of women to vote. In Considerations on Representative Government, Mill called for various reforms of Parliament and voting, especially proportional representation, the Single Transferable Vote, and the extension of suffrage.

Growing Up In The Universe <- Check It Out !!!
There are many "thinkers" who were great, and we could argue which were the greatest, though in my opinion, I feel that the Prophets(pbut) were the greatest thinkers ever. They managed to change the will and way of thought of thousands, and over a span of thousands of years. They are truly the greatest of the great minds the world has ever seen.
It does not matter if you agree with them or not, but the fact of the matter is their ideas, or the ideas of God expressed through them has lasted through the ages and will continue to last as long as faith is present within mankind, and rest assure that faith is something which will remain within the hearts and minds of mankind for all eternity and to the grave with all men.

"Not to know what happened before you were born is to be a child forever. For what is the time of a man, except that it should be interwoven with that memory of ancient things of a superior age?" -Marcus Tullius Cicero
Mohammad wasn't a thinker.
For me, the greatest thinkers would be Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Allama Iqbal.
Don't be fooled by Sir Syed's huge beard - that guy was a century ahead of everyone else with his views and was called a heretic because of them.
Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for, thou art not so.
All Prophets(pbut) were thinkers. All of them converted hundreds if not thousands to their respective faiths. They all planned ahead and knew what was coming and how to respond to it. They all spoke messages of God, and elaborated on them for the masses. They were all the greatest of the great thinkers.
Salaam,
Adnan

i think prophets are a bit like pop stars rather than great thinkers, they just hop on the latest bandwagon copying others in a way that seams new. it doesn’t matter how many sheep follow the shepherds.
so i take back mohamad and jesus as they are just icing - its the people who make the cake that count.
oh and i take back einstien too, science has helped us understand the world but not life, it is all a bit mechanical for me and damn it has produced the most arrogant thinkers since the romans e.g. dawkins. thing is science changes yet at each step acts like it knows everything.
buddism is largely jainism by a different name so he is out, thus i’ll stick with the greeks.

I have to go along with you here. Not sure if they actually spoke the real message of god but they were great thinkers. Even I wont take that from Mohamed.Originally Posted by MasterAdnin View Post

I believe that to meet the challenges of our times, human beings will have to develop a greater sense of universal responsibility. Each of us must learn to work not just for oneself, one's own family or nation, but for the benefit of all humankind. Universal responsibility is the key to human survival. It is the best foundation for world peace.
