    Default Changing the papal-system

    hi

    i've an important question about the papal system... you now-- this stuff that a cardinal vanishes and the pontifex gets a pope with the same name. for our mod we'd like to change the hole system in order to establish an emperorsystem for the holy roman empire but until now i couldn't get any information on this.... maybe its hardcoded... do you have any idea?

    Like you guessed, it is indeed hardcoded.

    so... next question...

    does anyone have an idea how we could change it the best way to work the way we want to? how we could get rid of the cardinals and use the family leaders instead... that would help a lot

    Make the cardinals' traits that make them one be given to the family members is my guess. But i don't have high hopes on this.....

    Well, take a look at the traits for Cardinals in the export_descr_traits.txt file. They have this variable, "Eligibility +1", which increases that character to be more eligible for election as a pope. Now the game could look only at priest characters and only decide eligibility amongst those, or you could try giving Eligibility to a family character (and removing all priest characters so they wouldn't get elected) and then see what happens.

    well, i did as you said. now there are no cardinals... then i thought of giving the family_leaders a priest status... but this leads to a strange error...

    in the system log it says something like an error in the descr_start in world/maps/.../imperial_campaign and that the father is younger than the son^^

    so i cant give them priest status... now i try different things, but if you have any other suggestions i'd be pleased to read them

    no you can't give them priest status, they must be family members. But what if they have eligibility +1, and there are no other cardinals to elect? Try that.

    eligibility i can can give only with the export_descr_traits.txt file, right?.... i already did. and i removed all priests from the descr_strat in the campaign. when i start a campaign now... there is no cardinal... i think the election of a cardinal is connected to the priest status and the eligibility transforms it but doesn't give the option. what could i try next?... well, i try to give a priest all the attributes of a family member and look at which attribute i get a crash

    I fear trying to convert the papal elections to imperial elections is not the way to go. There are just too many limitations.
