    Default Crushing defeat effects?

I am playing on SS 4.1 not sure if this would effect this topic but it might.

I was at war with Egypt as England. I owned Jerusalem Acre Gaza and Alexandria in the middle east. I sent an army to Cairo to take the city. (they just kept coming and using Cairo as a staging ground) So i won a Heroic victory against 2 stacks (1 in city the other coming to cities aid) I was very satisfied got city got sweet victory.... then the next turn i sent a diplomat to Egypt and asked for a cease fire , was just curious to see if they wanted one, It was rated at Very Generous. As after the crusade that got me there i never wanted to fight Egypt i promptly looked into how much i could shake em' down for. I was very surprised when i asked for Thebes (new SS city) Dongola and Mecca (also a SS city) and got a "balanced" rating so i offered and they accepted. After this i was very happy.... however this is my question did my heroic victory cause them to want peace? Their strength rating was still at "very strong" And they had 4 stacks not too far away from the city. Anyone else had this happen? And if so... do you think it is somewhat of an exploit to take all you can get for a generous ceasefire?

Hm... thats a good question. It would make sense, however it would also make sense for them to accept a ceasefire after you beat them down to 1 province.

If I'm not mistaken SS does a complete rework of the diplomacy AI so the normal rules don't apply. Congrats on the victory mate!

I get this alot with Egypt on vanilla 1.2 as well. I'll send a single stack on a crusade and take a settlement or two and Egypt will come begging for a ceasefire and willing to give up regions to get it. I can't figure out why Egypt is so willing to roll over when other factions refuse any offer of peace regardless of how close they are to being wiped out.

I wonder if the overall weaker stat troops on Egypts unit roster make the AI always think it's super weak even when it has lots of troops, much like the Italian's high stat militia troops make the AI always think it's super strong.

Did the mongol invasion occur yet?

I was playing as Sicily and I took antioch as part of the Crusades. Egypt attacked me many times and refused ceasefires(always Very Demanding), but as soon as the Mongolian Invasion happened they stopped attacking me. And when I offered a ceasefire it would say "Very Generous". Well it didn't help me at all because the Mongols came and took Antioch away from me. =(. Then I decided to reload a previous save file and gave Antioch to the Moors(to stop them from attacking me) and the Mongols ignored Antioch(WTF!!!).

Yeah I had the same in SS 4.1 with the Crown of Aragon, I had driven the remaining Moor armies out of the Iberian Peninsula. Even though they still owned Valencia, Cordoba and Granada they came begging for a ceasefire and they agreed to give me those 3 cities + trade rights even though they still owned complete northern africa.

I had the french desperate t get a ceasefire after I had smashed three armies the coast. Also they had been excummincated, though milan even though I beat two armies badly in bridge battles they keep askig for a ceasefire and lyon and ajiacco back, then I offer them a ceasefire, just that adn they arn't intrested.

That would be an interesting effect, that a heroic victory inspires the enemy to rethink their plans for war and take another look at your offer. Not sure if that makes a difference for negotiations or if it is even a possibility for affecting diplomacy.
Would be cool if it did though.

My apologies... had a busy few days.... but this is still around turn 50... couple years before Mongol invasion warning. This is the first time Egypt has conceded ANYTHING on any game i have played. They usually fight to the bitter end... or fight to the last settlement in the desert which is a complete pain to attack. Thanks for your input guys.
