Dvd-drive can read the disc but it won't start

This is a pretty big problem.. I was just about to play a little LTC while waiting for Kingdoms. I haven't played Medieval 2 for months, and when I try it simply won't start. The drive read other dvd's perfectly fine, and I can actually locate the M2 disc in Pathfinder. When I try to start Vanilla or LTC though, it asks me to put in the correct disc.

I have no idea what's wrong, I could post a dxdiag if necessary?

Have you changed fro XP to Vista? Or just running Vista?

No, using XP.

I heard Vista is bad for gaming, which is what I use my computer for mostly.

I was planning to uninstall the game, then install it again with Kingdoms, but that seems problematic now.

Well, it works in XP for me when I boot XP I dualboot. In Vista it wouldn't read my original disks. So to get around that I made a 1:1 image in Blindwrite, installed Daemon Tools with emulation options turned on and mounted the image there. Then it worked. Original exe and all. If all else fails, maybe you can try that in XP too.

Other than that though, I rarely boot XP anymore as all the games I play works much better in Vista. FPS and all. And I power-game But you need at least 2gb ram or more for Vista to be better. But today, 2gb is the minimum amount of ram any serious gamer should have

Something like that might be possible, though I'm not good at those kind of things.

I'll get vista some day, but not for at least a year, I'm just not comfortable doing it now. Even though I have enough ram.

Crap.. it seems I really am that stupid.

The disc I had previously used for playing suddenly stopped working, and the other one works just fine. BUT I'm pretty damn sure it changed for some reason, even though it makes no sense.

Anyway, my game works now, I'm just a dork.

Weird though that quite a few have had this problem, and it seems to have started in august sometime.

Yeah; around the time reinstalls were necessitated by the broken patcher
