    Default Leonidas General

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible if I could make a ground unit with the custom Spartan hoplites with Leonidas commanding it? I have the Spartans already skinned, but I can't seem to find a tutorial on how to add an officer to the unit groups. I do have the custom Leonidas skin ready as well, just not sure which files to edit.

Any direction in a tutorial link or some quick advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    type greek hoplite spartan
    dictionary greek_atg_vp_spartan_
    category infantry
    class spearmen
    voice_type Medium_1
    soldier greek_hoplite_spartan_pylos, 40, 0, 1.3
    officer greek_standard_spartan_pylos
    attributes sea_faring,hide_forest,can_sap,very_hardy,very_hardy,frighten_foot,frighten_mounted
    formation 0.9, 1, 2, 2, 4,square, shield_wall
    stat_health 3, 0
    stat_pri 16, 12, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, spear, 0 , 0.9
    stat_pri_attr light_spear,spear_bonus_6
    stat_sec 16, 12, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 0 , 0.9
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 10, 17, 6, leather
    stat_sec_armour 0, 1, flesh
    stat_heat 1
    stat_ground -4, 0, -8, 0
    stat_mental 99, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 3, 2342, 126, 104, 112, 1080
    ownership greek_cities, slave

place the officer entry under the soldier one in your EDU text. like in the example above

So will that replace the leader of each unit with the Leonidas model?

Looking at the cohorts playing campaign, it looks like they have an officer with the horizontal headpiece which I assume is the officer. But also looking at the Cohort general unit (to which my general of the battle was) I saw a unique general skin.

Would that change the officers of each unit, or is there a way to skin Leonidas as the general?

ok from my understanding you want the general to look like leonides?

go into your descr_model_battle.txt document and find the "greek_general" entry and change to the leonides one, keeping all this stuff the same though

    Code:
    type greek_general
    skeleton fs_dagger
    skeleton_horse fs_hc_swordsman
    skeleton_elephant	fs_forest_elephant_rider
    skeleton_chariot	fs_chariot_sword
    skeleton_camel fs_hc_swordsman
if you can see that other factions are using this entry simple copy the "greek_general" entry before editing it and change it to "greek_general_shared" and remove the greek texture line from it. place this copied entry above the leonides one.

also, if the general unit is still a cavalry unit you might want to go into the "export_descr_unit.txt" document and change it to infantry (spartan inf?) like this.
    Code:
type greek general's guard cavalry early
    dictionary greek_generals_guard_cavalry_early ; General's Bodyguard
    category infantry
    class            spearmen
    voice_type Medium_1
    soldier greek_hoplite_spartan_pylos, 40, 0, 1.3
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, very_hardy, frighten_foot, frighten_mounted
    formation 1, 1, 2, 2, 5, square, phalanx
    stat_health 2, 0
    stat_pri 18, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, spear, 25 ,1
    stat_pri_attr spear, spear_bonus_8
    stat_sec 12, 3, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 25 ,1
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 11, 14, 5, leather
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 2
    stat_ground 2, 0, 0, 0
    stat_mental 99, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 30
    stat_fire_delay 0
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 2, 1190, 460, 120, 180, 1190
    ownership greek_cities
    hope ya understand that

After reinstalling due to a probable messup and then fixing some other errors that came about I finally got my spartans reskinned, my Leonidas general working and some other fun stuff.

Many thanks to your examples which worked well with the tutorials I was looking at as well.

I learned that you should make backup files, and that renaming every greek heir and name in descr_strat to Leonidas in an attempt to immortalize the king of sparta results in massive new Imperial campaign crashes.

edit: balls, after I started editting the export the game starts up to the red initial screen then closes, I double checked export but it seems to be okay.

edit 2: after some backup replacing and game studying it seems to be I'm getting an error when I switch a new soldier into either of the General bodyguard units in the Export file. Since its reading the new solider for the general unit as the hoplite elite(which I chose for example) do I need to delete all the mount lines and adjust the other lines accordingly?

quick question, do you use the "-show_err" command line.
if not then this will help a lot. simply right click on the "Rome - Total War" shortcut and select properties, then click on the "shortcut" tab up the top. now it will have an area in which you can type called the "target", go to the end of this text and add "-show_err"
    eg.
    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total Wargold\RomeTW.exe" -show_err

im not sure i understand what your trying to ask

Would it be possible to post the model and skins and whatnot for Leonidas?

Could we use two models for a greek general? Is there a way? For example the model that comes with the game, the mounted general named from descr_names. And , a Spartan -foot- general (i.e. Leonidas) named at best XXXXX of Sparta .
And if thats possible -and under which terms- could this unit be included in the a) general recruitment system b) family tree?
For example i put hoplite bodyguards -spartan royal guard- to Kleomenes, but when the child grows up has the cavalry bodyguard.

    thierrydesmit,
your answer lies in Big Jake's #4.

    1. DMB - Edit the greek general enrty
    2. descr_model_strat: add the leonidads model/texture to the greek general/greek_cities entries
3.edit export descr units to give him spartan escort . You can copy and paste the spartan hoplites entry in EDU , adding bodyguard in the first line and general_unit in the attribute line.
    4. add the new unit to be recruitable in export_descr_buildings.

Be careful though , if you do this Leonidas will always appear as general (even if a group of armoured hoplites attack a hastati unit) instead of the greek general (the ugly one without helmet)
Sorry i cant give you any more detail now, i have never tried that before.
