RTW Movie Editor Troubles - how do I render video?

Greetings friends! I request the expertise of someone who knows how to work the RTW movie editor, which I‘ve been trying out recently.

The following tutorial has been my guide:

It seems like an excellent tutorial, but I’ve encountered a problem. After creating a nice little series of clips following the directions from early on in the tutorial, I reached the “Rendering Video” paragraph. It says the following:

You can now use your replay file and camera file to render out a series of Targa image files. Create a new shortcut with the command line '-movie_cam:capture_video'. Load your replay through the front end as usual and press L to load your camera file. Once you have loaded your camera file, press R to reload the battle. Upon reloading the render will begin. Once the render has completed the game will exit to desktop. The Targa image files will be rendered to the location '\capture_tga' in the Rome directory at 30 frames per second

I did this. I loaded the replay through load game/load replay as usual, pressed L, then pressed R. But when I pressed R, it only restarted the replay as normal. It didn’t render any video then exit to the desktop, it just played the replay through like normal. I checked my Rome directory and had no “capture_tga” file.

Am I doing anything wrong or is this tutorial flawed? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!!

I heard that in patch 1.3 and 1.5, you can't render. Some files conflict so the movie cam is broken

Aww that's too bad. Maybe I could use an external video recorder though...anyone know of any good ones? (other than fraps, which is sometimes laggy and has the fraps thingy at the top)

I heard Gamecam was way better than Fraps. But when I tried Gamecam, it seemed even laggier than Fraps. So I just stuck with Fraps. Check out some of my online battles if you get the time (the links in my signature).

Hmm...you misquoted me.

I meant what I said the first time. Gamecam sucks on my computer. As I said, Fraps works much better on my computer.

EDIT: I did see a screwup in my sentence just now. That probably confused everyone. My mistake. Instead of "sticking with Gamecam," I meant I was "sticking with Fraps."

My biggest annoyance with fraps is that it has the word "fraps" printed at the top of the screen of everything you film.

Yeah but the words aren't that big and if its just to be put on youtube then thats ok, i think the premium fraps allow you to remove the words and record at a higher frame rate. But it costs money...

Windows movie maker? don't know if that will actually do it though....

After I use Fraps to capture the video footage, then I use Windows Movie Maker to edit it all together.

Cool, can't wait to see those movies you are making.

Btw, are there any free movie editors out there besides Windows Movie Maker?

See the link to the tutorial in my first post? I found that very helpful. I've practiced a lot and have gotten skilled with movie cam - the problem is putting it into film! I'll try fraps though.
